I am trying to decide if I want to sell my prelude and buy a Z. What is the diference between all the models of the Z? Also what are some bad things about the Z that I should watch out for? One reason why I want to sell my lude is because the ludes trannies are no good, they break early. Anything like that I should becareful of?

Welcome to the board!
I've had my Z since 5/29/2003, and I've had no problems whatsoever thus far. Some people have had a few minor issues, however...just do a forum search for the lowdown on these.
There's no difference in engines across all the Z trim lines...every one's got a 3.5L V-6. Obviously, the base model is the simplest one...it doesn't have some of the other creature comforts the other lines do (cruise control, xenon headlamps, etc.). The Enthusiast is considered by many to be the biggest bang for the buck. The Performance model is a little sportier...you get 18-inch wheels instead of the stock 17's, and you also get stability control to go with the TCS. The touring model gives you more of the "plush" features, like leather, heated seats, and navigation. Finally, the track model is the top of the line...18-inch aftermarket wheels and Brembo brakes.
These are just a few of the basic differences....if you're looking for more info, there are several other threads on the boards that go over this in greater detail.

I sold an '01 Lude and got an '03 350Z Touring. It was the best decision I have ever made.
You can't go wrong with any of the trim levels. If it is your first RWD car, I would suggest you get a trim level that has the VDC (vehicle dynamic control) if you plan on driving it hard. A few people have lost control in the corners that didn't have it or had it turned off.

I am planning on going turbo if I do get a Z. I know for a lude it is hard to get a turbo to fit the Type SH, is there any trims that a turbo won't fit?
I have been reading that a lot of people needed to replace their tranny. Why is this happening so much? Did they fix it in the 2004 models?

I think all trim levels have the same amount of space under the hood. I can't think of any factory option that can be added that would get in the way of a turbo.

I can tell you that there is more vibration in my tranny than I would have thought there should be, however I have never had a problem with any gear being difficult to get into (it is breaking in beautifully) and no grinding to report as of yet.

I got the 2004 model, only thing I dont like is the bounce. I am not talking about hard ride, its when the car go over asphalt or whatever road the call it thats white concrete and my car would bounce up and down like a roller coaster. The other problem they have not fix for the 2004 model is the tire feathering problem. I dont have the window grease problem but some ppl still got them with 2004 model. When I first got my car it was hard to shift into 2nd and 3rd but now I got 2k miles its been alot better even when the trans was cold. Also if u are planning on driving it in the winter u will have to get new tires, stock tires are no good for cold temp, rain and snow.
