sucks. Im sure your Z coulda caught him..... same thing happened to my father when he had bought his brand new VW passat diesel. we drove home from the lot and some dude in a minivan hit us in the passenger rear and tried to run. We caught him. Turns out he was here illegally and he got deported. AND, he hit us on the wheel, so there was virtually no damage. FTMFW!

Dude, people laugh when i tell them this, but i have always said "stay clear of mini-van owners"

I have noticed that mini-van owners are by far the worst in all aspects......

suxor man, hope ya get it all sorted out...

Did you check if there are any cameras in the place you got hit? Even when he drove away were there any stores on the road? Lots of stores have cameras located outside for security purposes

Unless he totally butchered it, the cops should be able to find a mini-van with a close enough plate number that you could visually ID it?

Generally that is a way to reduce premiums. I did the same thing with my homeowners insurance - I filed some smaller claims and then a big one to replace a roof with hail damage, which they covered but then canceled me. Came to find out that filing claims for less than $1000 is really not a good idea so might as well suck it up from the start. I raised my deductible with my new policy.

I duno about NY but here in VA I only had to report the plate # to my insurance and they tracked it down, took less than a week to find them.

Also, since it was on private property (shopping center) no laws were broken, if it were on public roads she would have got a leaving the scene of an accident ticket, but she could of easy got out of it by saying she feared for her safety.

edit: just read where you may not have the correct plate #; Here in VA the deductible would be 250, "uninsured motorist"

+1 ... The same thing happened to me yesterday. I live in Baltimore City and somebody backed into the front of my car. The only damage that it caused way cracked paint. I called Geico and filed a claim and I only have to pay a $250 deductible since it was considered uninsured motorist. Plus I get a free rental car. I'm not mad at all. I'm actually thanking the bastard for my new Nismo front bumper.

Umm, well hit and runs are illegal. Its a criminal offense to commit a hit and run no matter where it happend at.

There is no reason to leave the scene of an accident. It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident without exchanging correct information and if the accident exceeds a certain amount of property damage.
