Tell me about the Triptronic
My 350Z has 6MT and I love it. Well, I love it most of the time. I never thought of getting anything but a standard transmission. But when I got to thinking... I don't race, I don't need to prove anything, and after power shifting so many times, I'm kinda of get tired of shifting after a while. Pushing that clutch at stop lights gets old for the 24th time. I also live in an area with lots of hills.
Since I can't decide by just thinking about it, I went down and ordered another. This time I went for the Touring with the triptronic. Alot of the Porsche owners are opting for triptronic these days. I understand it lets you up-shift and down-shift when you're in the mood and lets you just hummmm when you want to just hummmmm.
I've had plenty of sports cars, and now the triptronic has some appeal. Can anyone comment on theirs and how it shifts from automatic to manual, etc.
Thanks

I have it on my G35 and enjoy it and I also have a 6spd Z. If you do not like shifting, go for the automatic, there is nothing wrong with it at all. I know if I only had one car and I questioned my desire to shift, I would definitely go the automatic route. The loss of the performance will be very minimal, my Z only pulls away from the G35 very slowly after 30mph so with the lesser weight in the auto Z, this should be very minimal.
Both have a full automatic mode.
Both have full manual mode.
Tiptronic has 5 programable auto modes so you can have
personalized shift points for the spouse, for best mileage, for best performance, and for combinations of both.
From what I hear from the few who posted about their at5's it sounds like the Z's transmission shifts smoother and quicker than that of its G35 counterpart so it may have been optimized for performance just like the engine was.
I like the ideal of only having to shift when I feel like it too, especially on long tours and in heavy traffic. I have a RX-7 and plan on getting a S2000 next year for playing race car driver in.
