1997 Civic - parents car
2003 Accord - parents car
2006 Z - my first car

Joined the forum back in '02 when the Z's were first coming out and I was in high school.... tried my best to get my parents to get me one but they knew better. As you can see they put in me a civic which was a smart thing to do. Now I'm 25, out on my own, and bought my first car. I think it worked out best this way. I went to a college, got good job, and saved the money myself.
More kids should learn the value of a dollar and what it takes to make big purchases like buying a car. It is very apparent who has and who hasn't had to work hard in their life based on attitude alone.

I am not sure all states allow you to do it, but in NC you can "gift" a car to a son/daughter from a parent and you don't have to pay the Highway Use Tax that you normally do when you title a car. Something worth looking into.

Don't doubt the Celica. At 2500lbs and easily gutted, , with some handling mods, it can handle amazing for a FWD car.
