My AUTO Z is modded: wheels, tires, coilovers, sway bars, 3.5 FD (from 6MT), exhaust, etc... and paddle shifters and i love it
Im always in "manual" mode using the paddle shifters, and i spank MT drivers at the track all day, and they blame this on the fact that i can shift faster than they can
If i want the clutch experience i jump on my dirt bike... and am currently shopping for an R6 that will be a track only bike
my 2 cents,
gino (likes his auto Z)

I had a twin turbo 5AT with a valve body upgrade. Was putting down about 400 wheel. It was a beast. It is a very different feeling to never lose boost. The shifts were hard but quick. You just really have to pay attention to the tranny heat. If you ever do upgrade, I would suggest running a temp gauge to make sure you don't bake your tranny. Heat is its enemy.
Another thing that shocked me with the 5AT was how quickly I pegged it. I was chasing a car on the highway, was reeling him in quickly and then all of a sudden I couldn't get any closer. I looked down and noticed I was at redline in 5th at 155. I could not get anymore speed. I am sure with the 6 speed I could get higher.
Everyone who rode in it was really impressed even though it was an auto. As you can see, I swapped to a 6 speed because it is more fun and I wanted to get more power. But, if you want to spend money modding your car, do it. Who cares what it is? People will always hate no matter what you do. Just do what you like.
P.S. If you need an auto tranny with a valvebody already installed, let me me know :P

I have an auto and love it. A lot of people talk smack about autos but in my situation with traffic and a commute everyday it just makes more sense. I don't have a ton of mods but I definitely don't regret putting money into an auto Z at all. Overall its your Z, do what you want.

^ You shift without physically pushing a clutch........................ its an auto.
All technical aside, the whole point of m/t argument is "for the fun of it", i.e. the physical action of pushing the clutch while shifting opposed to just shifting with trip or paddles. What else is there?

Your car, Z's are great in my opinion, mt or at, modded or not modded. Mine is a 2003 350Z mt modded. But modded or not, they are fun to drive, mt or at still fun to drive and to mod, i.e. fix up. Have fun, it's your car.

Also, I don't get why Auto guys with boosted Zs have to state I have so and so HPs... So what! Any car you put money into will be fast. But, and no one here will disagree, theres nothing funner in this great grand world than downshifting from 3 to 2, pulling the stick towards you, pushing in the clutch, and stepping on the gas. NOTHING compares to it. I don't care if you have 500whp and you're auto, you can never have that feeling imho. ITS FUN!!! I love driving my 287 hp car. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the months it took to feel and properly drive this manual car (my first mind you-I modded my auto eclipse). How to properly shift softly without slipping the clutch and learning when to shift by the sound of the engine. AND I LOVE LOVE heal-toeing yeah something foreign to AT drivers, both practicing it, and performing it in between transitions.
If your happy with your auto, more power to you, but there's just something engaging and fun than driving the 6 speed.

I have a auto wit almost all the mods you can have and I must say that I beat alot of cars based on power to weight ratio. And I don't spin. In a 6spd that is the only down fall....
