^I'm not sure if i'm telling the truth but I think the older Z's don't have that feature. I think they introduced that with HR Z's.

I myself learned to drive with an M/T but ended up getting an A/T Z.. One of my biggest mistakes. I miss driving an M/T.

I still love to mod her though - even A/T Z's can be competitive during motorsports events.

I dont know what year Z it was it was a DE or Revup, def was not an HR. Of course I was in manual mode downshifting when it did that.

I used to be a Manual guy however if you stop and think for a minute...

Machinery is designed to do the job of a human more efficiently. I agree that in MOST automatic vehicles this is not always the case. Many previous cars I have owned in automatic shifted hard or slowly and the RPM range was always off for each gear.

When buying my Z I test drove 2 manuals and 1 auto before I ended up with the one I fell in love with. In my 350Z the automatic transmission shifts faster, smoother, and way more efficiently then anyone could ever do in a manual (Excludes first gear at slow speeds).

In regards to MOD's.. Well the main benefit of having a manual is the reduced weight so make sure to take that into consideration. From my research all accessories and most performance parts work regardless of the transmission type.

Overall an automatic transmission is an added accessory for most vehicals.. Don't be cheap and sell yourself short of a great vehicle. I would say an auto is better on the road so it would also be better to Mod!! My 350Z Auto is getting tricked out! Ill take some pics after it I get back from the paint shop later this week.

my '04 rev matches. Nissan built it with one of the best auto boxes available. it's not a race car and the streets are not race tracks. are you the only one to have ever driven a stick shift, no. is the 350z the greatest thing since sliced bread, not. some will even argue since you're not driving a convertible the car does not qualify as a true sports car. I could care less about such arguments. just adding my 2 cents after reading too much b.s. and bragging here. buy what you want and mod (or not) to your heart's content to make the car uniquely yours. thank you Nissan for building such a fun little car.

to me, the more troubling trend is auto park, auto braking and onstar features. the continued dumbing down of the masses and tracking. next will be cars you don't even drive. just get in and say "starfux". and if you don't pay your taxes it will park you locked inside at either the IRS office or the police station.

I've got a modded HR AT as well. It's an awesome car and the tranny holds plenty of power. Of course you'll always want more power eventually so my next mod will be for stillen to reinforce my transmittion. A valve body upgrade that turns the shifts into real sport shifts with a almost instant reaction time and no lag is on my list I'm currently pushing 400rwhp, will up the boost and build the engine soon to be pushing 500 at the wheels!

Those are all fine modded vehicles. But the fact of the matter remains. Driving a manual is a skill. Try heel toeing downshifting (sometimes 2 gears) while braking AND making sure the cars suspension doesn't get upset (and you crash) because you did not rev match it properly. YOU CAN'T DO THAT IN AN AUTO SLUSH BOX. Like I said it's a skill....consider it a driver mod. People have their preferences, but the fact remains no one wants to drive a manuals because they are lazy...

Transgo's been at it a long time. I put in their TH350 shift kit back in 1980(?) in my '71 Camaro. shifted hard, all the time, every green was a drag race. eventually that trans ate itself up. nice to hear the new iteration for the Z keeps it mellow in D.

How much did the transgo Run you and how is it compared to stock? Stillen wants one grand to upgrade the tranny. I also want to have some kind of high stall torque converter for perfect launches

in the end it does not matter. at the rate of crashes the z has been going through it might not last long enough to enjoy stick or auto.

in the long run though do what makes you feel good and not what others think.

You guys are smoking crack. A factory TQ converter auto will NOT shift faster than a good clean power shift. It will out shift 95% of MT drivers, but when heard shifting from outside the car it is lazy and slow. Same goes for SMG transmissions. Anyone with racing experience knows this.

Look at drag times the stock vs stock times tell the tale in most applications. You guys think your POS TQ converter manual shift autos are twin clutch GTR transmissions they are NOT.

In the 370Z with its closed ratio first 4 gears the auto is quick. And because we haven't seen a driver in one it's still IIRC faster stock for stock than a MT. That's a Shame for those guys.

The auto 350Zs die when they hit 4th gear. Of course most of you can't comprehend this all because you have likely never seen a true driver in a MT. Everyone thinks they can drive until they see someone who can....
