$&!^ accidently over revved! (but not by much)
i over revved by 500 rpm (over revving, meaning past redline), im still in break in too! i was in manual mode, it wasnt downshifting, i downshifted too high, like 4k RPM or so, and i gave it some gas an before i knew it, redline *OOPS*! i know i hurt the engine, but how much? i'd like to know what *kind* of damage this does, i mean, does it loosen spark plugs or warp piston rings or what???
I just dont think the computer would allow you to down shift into a gear that would "over rev" the engine... it has computer override on everything you do, I mean if you were on the highway doing 80 and hit it over would it down shift into 2nd or 1st gear? I would think it wouldnt.
It probably did ALOT less damage than you think it did. Remember that redline is set low by Nissan. Its not good to push your engine to redline all the time but every now and then isn't going to cause any damage.

No damamge or harm done! Your car has a rev limiter that protects your engine. The technosqaure ECU changes the rev to I think around 7,100 RPM, and your rev limiter won't let you get anywhere near that. If you are under 1,200 miles I would just not make it a habbit hitting the rev limiter too often.
I have a 6MT and ive neared the fuel cutoff a few times . Ive even knocked the tach needle against the edge of the tachometer well over the fuel cut off for a split second. Not having the engine completely broken in wont make much of a difference IMO, as long as it wasnt like the first 50 miles of the car's life.
truely over revving comes atleast for sure in manual(Id think manumatic would elimate this) but if you redlined in 3rd and then missed the shift into 4th and went into 2nd, the momentum of the car would over rev the car past the fuel cutoff, forcing it to rev to 8 or 9000RPM, THAT is an over rev. hitting the fuel cutoff is just that, not a big deal.
I know on some trannies atleast, they will not allow it, it will simply ignore the command, its not a physical link, and it can perform the calculation in nanoseconds, figure out the gear its in and speed, then know what the RPMs would be if it went into a different gear, and then compare it to the redline. if its higher, dont make the shift.
