Some of the AMG cars are very very quick even though they rarely look it, but nonetheless the vette is probably the strongest overall performer in that list, but it certainly doesn't "DESTOY" the rest of the competition, for sure not the M3.

Track vs Street
Justin Bell had an advanced 3 day driver's school last year. They featured the Z06. I was so impressed with the car, I ran out and bought one.
The Z06 is the finest street car I ever drove on the track, and based upon it's record in the SCCA (at the nationals last year the Vette LAPPED its competion on a wet track with Heinricky driving), it has to be at or near the top of the track pile at any price.
Now the subtleties: the street isn't the track and sports cars offer very different "feels" and "driver experiences". I sold the Vette because I prefer to drive something like the Z on the street.
IMHO choosing a car for the street based upon what it does on the track is a poor tradeoff. I've got a racecar that will blow the doors off the Z, but I guarantee you won't like it on the street. (then again I may be wrong, depending on your point of view)

I would almost definitely take the Corvette over the Z. The only aspect of performace the Z has over the Corvette is braking. The LS1 is a very good engine, puts out tons of power, easy to mod, and reliable. Its a proven performer. A lot of non-GM owners bring up reliability, but GM cars are built a lot better today than they were 10 years ago.
Before you do make the decision, try to test drive both and see what you like personally. That way you will know what each car has to offer so you won't regret your decision a few years down the road.

There will also be less Vettes on the road in a few years meaning it will retain a higher value.
On a side note, I looked up the specs on a Z06 and it is faster than I remember, maybe I was thinking about a base C5

yeah I'd go for the vette, if you can afford it and its insurance.
its aftermarket is huge, the follwing of folks is huge and great (nothing against the Z it has an awesome following too) the only two knocks against the vette are its hood his HUGE, very long, takes a bit to get used to a car with a hood that long, you really gotta learn to "feel" where the front corners of your car are, but its cool like that too. and the fact that you will definately shred some very big/expensive tires, its just too fun.
but yeah I'd agree with the statement drive them both first then which ever one gives you goosebumps thats the one.

yup, the Z06 will DESTOY the M3, Boxster S, 911, etc...
2002 Z06
0-60 in 3.9
1/4 mile in 12.4
2002 M3
0-60 in 4.7
1/4 mile in 13.2
go to http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=378837 and look for yourself. This guy pulled a 12.168 (along with a bunch of others) Bone Stock. Then he pulled a 11.931 with just a different pair of tires.
There definatly no comparison there.
I have a Z06, not the 02, but the 01. I have modified a little, so it has the 2002 hp stats. I raced an M3, and i was literally about 4 cars length ahead of him at the end of 3rd gear. If your not driving a viper, 911 turbo, gt2, etc..., then forget about it. This stock vs stock of course.
I really dont think the Z06 should be compared to the 350Z. There is just no compariosn. The Z06 is way above the 350Z.
JMHO though.
p.s.- Yes, Baven, you are right. The M3 will keep up, maybe even beat a regular C5.
