Question 2003 350Z - looking for some advice / help

Where to begin..

I have an '03 Z, got it brand new. After i had it for a while, I got ambitious and decided I was going the FI route since I had a hook-up for a ProCharger for the car. I won't go into the gory details but after several years dealing with a shop that closed down, blew up my motor etc. this is where I currently stand.

I have a new motor in the car with some kind of high flow fuel system, high flow fuel injectors, supposedly burnt out cats (according to a dealer who put the new motor in the car), and it's registered as non-op. (i live in california by the way). And yes, I still have all the supercharger parts sitting in a box...

At this point the car has been sitting in the garage for a long time, and only has about 35k miles on the odometer. There is about 1,000 miles on the new motor. I'm trying to figure out my options at this point, whether to sell it and just get something I can drive, or possibly find a cheap option to get this back on the road. I haven't called the DMV yet to see if it needs to be smogged before I can sell it. If not, I might just post it on craigslist or something for 6-8k as a project car, and cut my losses. If it does need to be smogged, I might as well go the whole route, since the cats are the most expensive part if you buy them new. Does anyone know if there would be problems replacing the injectors back to stock, but keeping the high flow fuel system installed?

Does anyone have ideas or resources that might be able to help me get this thing road worthy again? Any spare original cats floating around? Another thought would be to sell it as non-op, and someone gets a bitchen track car, and maybe i'll throw in the SC parts as well.

Any advice is welcome!

1. Put the fuel system back to stock
2. Buy aftermarket hi-flow cats
3. Drive.

Sell SC and other bits to recoup some money.

Do you own the car?(I hope so since you bought in 03) you could do both. Post it on cl or here and try to buy the parts to get it back to stock. Whatever happens first you can either enjoy it, or have a few extra parts to sell.

My 2 pennies

Non-op you can sell as is, no smog is needed to sell. Registered, you still don't have to smog, but the buyer has to before registration.

Yep, I own the car outright. I need to get all the SC parts together and take some pics. Everything is in a box and I don't even know what all is there. I'm sure not going to be using it anymore, i'll let you know when I get it all together. I don't even know what a fair asking price would be for a procharger with about 500 miles on it (if even that many).

Keep car as a track car. You live close to Laguna Seca and I would spend some track time before you decide to sell the Z. My 2 cents.

on another note, does anyone know if I would have a problem keeping the higher flow fuel system in there, but just throwing the oem injectors back in to restrict the amount of fuel being dumped into the cylinders?

Might be able to get away with just putting stock injectors in. Might as well get an aftermarket Walbro Fuel Pump that has stock specs and install it... $100 and easy to do.

I did a bit more looking and i have a return fuel system by Aeromotive currently in the car. I know nothing about the specs, but after a quick conversation with the tech team there, they are suggesting i take out the system and return it to stock ni order to pass smog. It's just dumping way too much fuel into the motor right now. It has a larger fuel pump, regulator, aftermarket fuel rails, and injectors. I'm thinking about taking it down to the dealer and having them look to see what it would cost to return the fuel system back to stock and pull out the RFS. I have the OEM pump rails, and injectors, so not sure what it may cost me to get it all put back, but we'll see what the estimate turns out to be.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my post, the procharger is long gone, now i'm trying to deal with the aftermath of getting rid of it. The return fuel system in still in the car, with no more forced induction. That's the next step in my problem is getting the fuel issues sorted out so I can smog it.
