I wuld rather leave my fuse alone and won't make it to Atco Raceway for a while.

But... if I am at a stoplight and somebody looks like they wanna gun it... how do I get the best launch in an automatic?

Just turn off TCS and floor it? If I do that, will I just smoke the tires instead of taking off?
What if I leave it on.. will it bog down?

Help! I have been hyping my car up and don't wanna get beat by my other girlfriends with an Acura CL (not type S), 1997 Corvette (which i know will prolly beat me but I don't wanna be that embarrassed) and a TT 225 hp.

 

Its easy just turn the TCS off and floor it. Depends on the pavement and temp. Smooth pavement will get you wheel spin but not too bad. I beat 3.2TL type S in the dust. I dont know about the 97Vette, I believe they have 300hp.

 

acura-cl...easy kill, i used to have a CL-S and i know it couldn't keep up w/ the Z

if you want ... leave TCS on so you wont spin for long ... learn to launch, learn the best RPM's to shift at (in tiptronic) and learn to work the tiptronic some, believe me, you still get enough power to chirp gear(s), lol

Hey, do you let go out the accelerator when shifting the tiptronic??

 

Unless you are a pro at shifting, stick it in D and just floor it. TCS is sort of subjective. If the pavement looks good and you think you will get good hook-up turn it off. If in doubt or it looks slippery leave it on. (Of course you're doing this at a track or a safe secluded area. ) Good luck.

 

that depends, it technically shifts faster if you have your foot in it, otherwise, itll wait till you put your foot back on.

if you trick it though, you can get really solid shifts, it just takes practice

 

Don't lift up on the gas if you are using the manual mode or you will get slow shifts. Keep the throttle at the same position or accelerate. A torque converter will shift better with an open throttle. Coming from a manual it took me a while to learn not to do it because I got used to lifting off the gas on a manual.

 

turn off traction, step on the brake hard, then bring the rpm to bout 2000, let go of your brake and step on the gas peddle gradually first, then punch it. You want to get the car rolling a bit first so you don't spin your tire like crazy....I always did this in my auto before, just practice it a couple of times...no guarantees though

You got to know that when your in auto mode it shifts right before redline. But put it into manual mode,things get fun. You could past redline. This is not healthy for the car. Another words you have control of the gears. It shifts pretty quick when your aggressive with the gas pedal.

Quarter mile times are common talk when you have friends that go to Atco Raceway to drag. I prolly won't race it there for a long time, but its good to know I wont be embarrassed by my auto.

Just curious, but you launch like this with the brake fuse in?

As some others have said before, I do better to turn TCS off, leave it in D, and just punch it at green.

I know it's not the best for racing but how do you manage to chirp gears in the auto? I haven't used the manaul mode much, maybe I'll start.

 

Turn off TCS AND A/C and just leave it in drive and floor it. It will electronically shift at redline and should give you the best times. P.S. Leave Vettes alone

If you just mean D, then what happens if I leave in tiptronic nd dont shft in time? Will I redline and screw up my motor just like in a 6speed? Or will it cut off?

 

It electronically shifts in D. If you don't shift in time in manual mode then it will bounce off the rev limiter (it won't shift at redline like some cars), not too sure about the exact rpm but I wouldn't suggest letting this happen.

 

It actually shifts at yellow in D. But in tiptronic it goes 300rpm past redline and fuel cuts off. You will smell the fuel running rich when you go past 5k rpm. Of course with the windows down.
