It must of taken alot of inner strength to not cave your wife's head in after you found out she was ok! J/K I'm glad everyone's OK and I bet this story will bring a few good laughs down the road once everything's back together and a little time goes by.

Default Its only money

A decent deal from Bill Kay Chevy in Lisle IL has got me back into a set of wheels - sadly the crumpled Z is now theirs - Check out the smile on the better half's face - is it relief that I'll quit talking car replacement strategy, with maybe a mixture of grimace due to me ability to spend $$$? FYI: the commemoraitve edition Vette has 100 less lbs, 63 more HP, an extra 100 lbft of torque, a Bose that sounds good and higher cornering G #'s, more room for golf clubs and a couple of suitcases and doesn't pogo stick on my favorite wavy section of I-88. On the flip side, it costs (mrsp to msrp) $15k more than a new Touring Z and the Z has a much more "direct" sports car feel in terms of steering, shifter action, road feel. - The damage and resulting diminished trade in value cost me $5K and the early trade out 1st year depreciation cost me another $5k.

Sweet!! Being a GM guy (up til now) I really like the Vette. Unfortunately it's a little out of my price league right now. Soon... Soon..

Did you trade the Z in the damaged condition that it was in? If so, I did not know that a dealer would take a crashed car in as a trade. Details, I'm curious...thanks.

Awesome. I am not a GM fan by any stretch, but the C5s are so awesome, if not a headturner. The dang thing is as wide as a bus! What a car to zip around traffic with!

Good luck with the new toy.

Ouch is right. I just drove a Z06 this weekend; can't imagine trading the Z for it, but to each his own.

Hey, BTW, were those the twins I saw in the family picture?!? j/k LOL

Yes - I have Blizzak WS 50's on 17" Milie Miglia alloys for winter use -

FYI: Chevy dealer is now jacking me around on the damaged trade (its in a body shop now) - I expect that I'll tell them to stuff it and keep the Z around until repaired (6 to 8 weeks!) and then try to sell to an individual or wholesale it to a local dealer. I will, of course disclose the repairs - my estimate is that I'll get about $20k from a dealer, maybe $22-23 from an individual, assuming high qulaity repair work. 1,800 miles on it! What a pain!

The Vette and the Z have absolutely totaly differrent feel to them. I honestly like both.

Yes, those are twin nephews - really great kids - well behaved, fun personalities.

In theory, you trade the car, but continue the repairs under your ins. coverage, which protects the dealer if more damage is uncovered during the restoration process. The dealer is now whining about "frame damage" and looking for a reduced trade-in allowance. The Z has unibody construction so, by definition the whole damn unibody can be considered to be part of the frame. The body shop says that "maybe" of the right rear suspension mount points is damaged, thus "frame damage". I expect I'll cut the dance short by negating the trade - I'll just give them a check for the trade in amount and pay the extra sales tax. What a PITA!

Isn't a deal a deal?
Didn't you come to an agreement, either verbal or contractual with the Chevy dealer?
Tell the Chevy dealer you're going to ask your lawyer what he/she thinks about it.

They are night and day. I still want a C3 vette some day when I have a garage to really restore it in.

And, BTW, I was referring to these twins ; I hesitate to post any of my own pics for fear they'll be photoshopped into them, lol

Specs? 2003 Silverstone Touring 6mt, Black leather seats, aerodynamics, mats, sill plates, slightly less than 1,850 miles, purchased new on 5/22/03. No problems with the car until the accident . Hope this is what you meant by "specs".

RK350Z just wondering did it bust the carbon fiber radiator support in the front? I saw a Z in a body shop last year that had hit a small dog and had $5000 worth of damage to the front. Its crazy how much damage you can do with just a small bump. But after looking at Crawfords we can at least say they are safe too!!

I don't know yet - haven't got the detailed repair report from the body shop/insurance folks. I'll report back when I do - probably within the next two weeks.
