Rev Limiter question
I won't be able to get my manual to read up more on this until later tonight, so thought I would ask some of you knowledgable guys in the meantime:
If I set the Rev Limiter to 4000, I should get a red indicator light blinking as it approaches 4000 & it should stay lit when it hits & exceeds 4000 RPM right? I've read a few posts where people that exceeded the set Rev limit had the engine just stop right there, but I've gone past it a few times w/o any slow down, so I'm wondering if there is something wrong, b/c mine is acting more like a Rev Reminder since it isn't actually limiting anything.
Anyone else notice this, or am I completely misunderstanding something here? I'm guessing that while skimming through some threads, i may have misread posts & the engine cutoff when they red-lined & didn't shift to a higher gear.
thanks,
J
btw, it was set to 2000 when I first got it & until I got around to setting it to 4000 (per break-in reccomendations) I went up to around 4000 w/o the engine cutting off...

The setting used on the trip computer is just to set the upshift light and not a rev limiter, the only rev limiter is at the redline, I think around 6500?? At that limiter is the only time the engine will cut off not at the shift light setting.

Right, all you are setting is when the light blinks. It will start flashing at 500RPM below the setting, and light steadily at the setting and above.
The rev-limiter is not settable: it's just a self-defense mechanism for the engine so you can't rev it to death! It seems to kick in above 6700, but I didn't see the exact revs. When the rev limiter kicks in, it totally cuts power and it's not subtle at all; you kind of want to avoid it. That's why the light is so great! I have mine to set to 6500 now, but I had it set to 5000 during break-in.
