Automatic vs Manual driving skills in a 350z
and this is my point... until you have experienced all types of racing, you cannot make the judgment that driving AT is a joke. I guarantee that if you took your AT car to a road course or anything with turns you would get a big wake up call and realize there is a lot more to racing than how fast you can shift a car. Just take that as a given and move on.
I am obviously into drag racing as well, but pushing a car hard through corners is significantly harder than shifting fast in a straight line..... now that being said it obviously hard to control a truly fast car in the 1/4 (many of which are auto)...
but for cars like ours... pushing hard through corners requires a lot of skill regardless of what transmission you have.
you started this thread with a blanket statement that driving an auto car is a joke period. and you got owned, now you are trying to modify your statement strictly to drag racing, and that show just how weak your argument truly is.

Of course drag racing an MT is harder, no one here ever said otherwise.... but that does not mean that racing an AT requires no/minimal skill (or in your case drag racing).... and that is what your blanket statements were stating, and why everyone jumped in, including myself.
........also pedal mashing an auto only works till you hit certain HP fyi....

at least you are finally starting to get it........also peddle mashing an auto only works till you hit certain HP fyi....

You guys made 2 good points
1) Automatics require skills around turns in course roads ( I agree)
2) Automatics with HIGHER HP require more than pedal smashing (I agree). but for a car like the DE or HR 350z in an automatic its pretty much pedal smashing I mean the cars have < 260 WHP which is pretty much nothing. Look at half the stock DE 350z races online it's just kids pedal smashing and losing races. You're talking about 350-400 + WHP cars.
but the point is I was keeping this manual vs automatic to the bounds of drag strip racing/ street racing (anyone that knows me would know thats all I talk about- I never talk about course racing). And I posted in the my350z forum assuming we are talking about 350zs not some crazy 1000 WHP cars. I want you to honestly tell me what skill is there when you're racing a stock DE 350z other than pedal smashing in a street race? (Again I'm stressing that I am NOT talking about course racing here).

again stock DE z, auto V manual in a drag race... manual is harder to race....this is obvious, however auto still takes skill. you still need to know how much to pre-load the transmission when preparing to launch ( this requires trial and error), you also need to learn the shift point if shifting manually, you need to adjust for wheel hop etc. and I will just leave it at that.
honestly to me, someone that is trying to justify what takes more skill to drag race makes no sense... in the real world (at the track ) no one gives a chit....what matters most is the time.
just show up to race and run what you brung period.

And OP, let's assume you get what you wanted out of this thread. What is the point? Who cares what takes more skill and what doesn't? You bought the car you want to drive. Who cares what anyone else picked.
I will be the first to chime in that a auto is not just smash the pedal and go. To bad you were not at zdayz last weekend. I would have shown you how a autof aggot takes skills in the curves and straight aways..... not just smash and go
I love these type of threads... its always fun.
