Default Automatic vs Manual driving skills in a 350z

So anyone that tells me that it requires skills to drive an automatic in a street race or a drag strip. Please get a reality check. Smashing the pedal requires minimal to no driving skills. I smashed the pedal when I first drove a car at the age of 16 and it was pretty easy. I got a rude awakening when I got my first manual car at the age of 17 and today I'm almost 25 years old. For some reason I still have kids telling me driving automatic cars require a lot of driving skills. What the seriously.

I drive an automatic car now a days and seriously when I race it feels pretty retarded. I smash the pedal and just make sure that the car stays in control and doesn't crash. It's not the same as how it used to be with my manual Z. That's all I'm saying.... people are getting all emo on here because I was the first to speak the truth. If I was driving a manual and bashing on automatics that would make me an *** hole. Keep in my MIND WHEN I had a manual I restrained from such comments. Now that I am driving an automatic I feel like I have the right to comment on it. That does not make me egotistic or arrogant it just means that I appreciate the manual a lot more than an automatic car.

If your automatic has manumatic capabilities, you'll need to learn how to keep it from downshifting on a track/road course.

Other than that, you, sir, are very correct.

Oh noes. Another MT vs AT thread.

Here's just a sampling of this "beaten-to-death" subject.

Those kids probably never driven a MT. But remember driving is more than going in a straight line.

Honestly most of those threads address the speed difference between manuals and automatics. Or most of them talk about how easy it is to drive an automatic and how the drivers are lazy etc... I am not addressing those issues. I am addressing the fact that driving an automatic requires none to minimal driving skills

I have a 05 G35 6mt Sedan with revup motor. I love the manual transmission and even though I am slower right now getting used to it, driving is sooooo much more fun than just smashing a pedal. Ripping through all the gears in town and rev-matching / downshifting and just punching it till the next gear. Man oh man is a manual a blast to drive and makes even the most boring trip exciting.

Latest revision tranny

Lmao, I don't think we needed another thread about it, though. The general idea for an automatic is to eliminate driver error, hence, little to no skill needed. And by little, I mean I can't and won't be able to match Nissan's time with the GT-R around Nürburgring even with the same car they used. Just some food for thought.

And they don't have to be "kids" I'm 25 as well and prefer my auto. Driving a manual in day to day situations is a pain in the *** for me. I have better things to worry about. Plus, if I need a fix for a good ol' clutch pedal, I'll hop in the 911.

Can I compare to seasoned MT drivers? No way, I don't drive it nearly enough times to have that "second nature" to driving a manual, but at least I know enough to get me out of a bad situation should the need for MT driving capabilities arise.

With respect from another Maryland member the manual vs automatic debate is as old as jesus. Not going to go there.

ive never believed in automatic sports cars. it just takes a whole element of fun out of it. and capabilities. but many new auto transmissions that are dumped into sports cars are faster and better than any manual tranny. im not sold on them tho! im biased (stick shift)

And that's really what it all comes down to - personal preference.

Dumb argument. There are drivers that can drive an AT and lap you around the track in your MT.

It's not about the transmission you drive but driver skill that matters. Curb your ego, you're not that much cooler for driving a 6spd.

Driving a manual doesn't require much skill either...

OP comes across as a typical "street racer" type who feels because he watched F&F, double-clutches, etc., that he is all that. No automatic driver better cross his path!

ahhh double clutching.... it never gets old hahah

I would like to see him(or anyone) go to the local dragstrip and go up to one of the guys running 6,7,8 second cars and say hey... you are using a powerglide... that takes no skill lol.......

I wont even get into the DSG transmissions and their abilities on the road course providing the driver has the most important mod of them all.... the driver mod (MT or AT)

Oh, I know you. You are the elite MT driver with all the skillz!

As C5 indicated... Go to the track and get in a 6-9 second AT and see how much skill it doesn't require...
