Default 350z vs G37s MPGs

I have a 2003 350z and on the highway I average around 32 mpgs. My friend just got a 2008 G37s, and he only averages 21 mpg? I know they are different cars, the G37 weights 400 lbs more and has a bigger engine, but is there any specific reason that it would get 11 mpgs less than the Z?

you must drive 60 mph all the time

is there any specific reason that it would get 11 mpgs less than the Z?
driver error/not resetting the av mpg when refilling would cause higher than normal mpg reading

Sure do, I guess it can be all about driving habits too and that could be my friends problem. Staying under 70, not accelrating hard up hills, NEVER hitting the brakes on the highway if possible, lots of factors. But Tennessee to Georgia was probably some pretty hilly terrain. You drive interstate 75? I dont do TN to GA all that much, but I do OH to TN all the time, and about halfway through KY all the way to Chattanooga is pretty steep.

I drive 75 miles to work and back everyday. Around 60 of those miles are highway, and the other 15 are city. With that mixed driving I am usually getting around mid 28s

I could easily get over 32 driving between Los Angeles and Monterey... cruise control set between 75-80 MPH...

Biggest differences are engine and weight. Achieving high 20s/low 30s MPG in an early-model Z car is pretty easy if you are gentle on the throttle and it's mostly highway. Our 07' gets significantly worse gas mileage than our last 04' (same body style, but 07' is a little heavier). My 04' G35 was very similar to the 04' Z as well, but the 07' is statistically much worse in gas economy.

You have an HR engine, he has a DE. He also may have a base model, which could be 200# lighter than your HR, maybe more.

Thanks for the info. Hearing the gas mileage will be worse on an 07' is not good news tho as I am planning to buy an 07' next summer. But the better engine and newer car will def be worth it!

Holy I wish I could get 32mpg, driving to the cottage at around 55-60mph for 3hrs I couldnt get past 28.2mpg in my 06'.

Normal use I average 18-19mpg, mostly city driving. But I don't think 21mpg is all that bad, like others have said its probably just his driving habits.

ha, wow way off bud. The argument was when driving the same speed on similar highways if you picked up on it. Your trying to call me a dumbass for not know that hard driving gets worse MPGs when you just made yourself look like a dumbass posting that comment haha omg, but yeah I have a 75 mile commute to work everyday so no I dont go hard everytime I'm in my Z. Just because I drive responsibly on my way to work everyday to save gas and not put unessecary stress on my car makes me a granny? lol I think not

You should try it sometime, as I don't have much data on the rev-ups (nor do I think any version of the Z would get "over 32mpg" when cruising at 75-80mph.

I was only responding to what I felt was a troll thread to begin with. Seeing you only have 43 posts and we have had quite a few newbs who are trolls that posts useless threads, I didn't take this one seriously.

Now I didn't resort to name calling or personal insults in which you did, the hostility was on your part. If you felt intellectually inferior that was your own doing.

Seeing the countless mpg threads since 2005, as a community making one that's "350z vs G37 mpg" or any car for that matter seems.... useless to me. But hey that's just my opinion. Welcome to my350z.com
