Default with or without splashguards?

I wanted my Z without splashguards but I couldn't find one in LS without them.So I got the one the dealership had.I was thinking about taking them off.I checked into it a bit and found out that they are added in the US after the car gets here from Japan. So I'm sure the paint under them is in great shape.I just wanted some opinions from others. After driving it a whole 35 miles I think they may serve a good purpose even though I don't plan on driving it in the rain or snow. They seam to be good at keeping small rocks from chiping the paint and keeping it clean from the occaisional wet spot in the road.

Depends on the conditions in which you drive. My dad's Z never sees any form of precipitation so we don't have the splash guards, plus i think it partially disrupts the flowing lines of the Z.

A quick search pulled up these threads:

Maybe these will help.

I have them and I like them, IMO they add to the style (not detract) - - remember, if you remove them you'll still have to look at the holes where they were mounted.

IMO too they are a style peice. after 9000miles and a year of driving without them, I can say I do not have a single chip which could be blamed on a lack of splashgaurds; and thats with 5000miles of wider tread as well.

I also love the rubber visible from the back, wouldnt wanna block that view.

I know the insides of my splash guards show a lot of abrasion, hard to say what it would without them, at least here in FL - sand everywhere

Definitely cleaner-looking without them and I haven't had any problems since I took mine off. As for the little holes that are left after you remove them, you could plug them easily with black plastic clips or plugs. I didn't bother because they aren't obvious.

They look best on the darker colors to me. With the light colors, the lines where the splashguards meet the body disrupt the smooth flow of the body. A Silverstone or PPW without them looks 100% better.

Plus, think of the weight savings.

I'm biased, I think they look awesome and they help with the rock chips also

i didn't want splash gaurds either but the z came with them. i'm glad i have them. The are great for protecting against rocks or small debris, especially since i work in an industrial park. and they make the car seem more of an extension out of the ground.

I think each one has its charms. It's like picking between a blonde or brunette. Of course, those are both blondes. With flaps looks like a muscle car - w/o flaps looks more refined.

I just purchased these for my redline Z. Not in white of course.

I love the splashguards. Makes the Z looks more complete IMO.

The splashguards make me think of mudflaps on 'neck pickup trucks. I think they really kill the back and side views of the car.

WoW
It goes both ways.
At first I was thinking mudflaps also but the more I look at them the more I like em.

Of the people who had paint problems when they took them off who can give a bit more insite into this? How long did you wait to take them off?ECT...

I posted this same topic about 1 month ago..I took mine off, and there was slight scuffing on the rear right fender. It seemed in my post 80% of the responses were without..on your post it seems more people like them. I think I will put them back on I spring, but then again, maybe I wont?

How do you get 2 passenger in you Z?
Stack em?
LOL

I am going to wait until I can get some good photos in good lighting and look at them real close to make the final decision.
