Default Windows/central locking stopped - open bonnet to make them work

Hey All !

This is very strange but I thought I would post and see if anyone has had similar issues or can offer advice.

When I got home I turned the car off and went to put the windows up, all I heard was a clicking noise sounding like just under the window switch. Window would not move. Tried passenger side same thing! Central locking also failed. Then no sound, just no power to the windows. I thought I would check for fuse and not having the manual in front of me opened the bonnet and then everything worked fine. :

So thinking that was a coincidence, today, when it happened again I popped the bonnet and closed again and windows fixed!!!!

Anyone see anything crazy like this before?

THanks
Mike

I've never had this happen, but I'm guessing that you may have a loose electrical connection somewhere, and when you are closing the hood, the jolt causes the connections to make contact which "fixes" everything.

Then, as you drive, the vibrations gradually loosen the connections so they no longer make contact and therefore things stop working.

I'd first check the fuses, to see if one of them has popped out a bit.

Good luck tracking this down!

Hmmmm very strange.

It apears to be something related to the imobiliser, when it happens I cant lock the door but the car starts without an issue.

On a side note, when I had the bonnet up, the TPS sensor makes a high pitched noise when the ignition is on. I cant say I have heard that before!!!!

I will keep hunting!

Just yesterday I was vacuuming my car and had my hood opened with the ignition on but the engine off and heard the high pitched whine. I assumed something was turned on with the ignition on. My wife walked by and commented on it also but I didn't worry about it because different systems turn on with the ignition. I think it's normal.

By the TPS, you mean the Throttle Position Sensor? Huh?

I'm thinking that you've wandered upon a Body Control Module problem, that will more than likely result in the replacement of the unit. However, duplicating it upon command will be the key, as just throwing parts at it will be expensive.

Next time, instead of fully popping the "bonnet" and then reclosing it, see if just cracking it open, the gently reclosing it (trying to not really disturb the rest of the vehicle) also fixes it. If it does, then it's the "bonnet ajar" signal that is the key, not the jouncing of the bonnet being closed that is the key.

If that is what happens, then I'd say that somehow, the BCM is thinking that the battery is being disconnected. Double check your fuses, not for being blown, but for being loose in the fuse block. Also, check them for any corrosion built up on the spades of the fuses themselves.

Are the Australian versions using Positive Earth, or Negative Earth? Just curious...

Thanks for the input guys.

Yes I did mean Throttle Position Sensor. I checked with an auto model, when in drive it makes the same noise, in park it stops so thats similar to the manual. In gear it makes the noise, in neutral its quiet.

I will check all the fuses now as windows all dead.

The central locking is on and off. Even when it works windows now still dead.

The aus Z is negative ground.
