Default Factory alarm?!

I am shopping around for an alarm system for my Z, but the installer is asking me whether the Z has a built-in factory alarm or not, the kind that say if the car is locked and the door is then opened and the car starts honking? Can anyone help me on this?! Thanks!

How easy is it to by pass the factory alarm? or how easy is it to install another alarm system and have the factory alarm work in conjunction with it?

Default doesn't sound good

If your alarm installer doesn't know himself that the Z has a built in alarm, that's not a very good sign. Most alarm installers have 1-800 numbers that they can call the alarm manufacturers for wiring help and wiring schematics. The 350Z is a new car, but the older Z's had a similar door lock alarm. Maybe they just don't have the schematics yet since it's a new car. But anyways, they just wire the new alarm alongside the old, so the old one is just not used. Hopefully your new alarm remote has enough buttons to do all the things the Z remote does. I like VSE alarms and Alpine alarms, lots of features and good reliability, of course you can go hoffco, but that's some bucks. I want to eventually put another VSE in my car with window rollups. It's pretty cool though, the stock alarm has a little flashing LED light right near the front edge of the dash on the drivers side. I would put another one of these on the passenger side for more visibility, looks like there is a round spot that you can put another one in. I just wish Nissan would have put an OEM alpine or something in that had a shock sensor and kill switch, that's all this stock alarm needs and maybe a siren too with the horns. Anyways, just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Why would you have a different alarm system installed if it already comes with an alarm? What's the difference?

My Viper Alarm can start the car automatically. Good for warming it up in the morning. Pop the trunk, roll down windows, remote light turn on and of course better alarm sound. FYI.

Say more about this alarm.

Separate keyless arming device, approx. cost, automatic starter with 6MT? Does this effect the manufacturer's warranty? Curious?

The factory alarm seems sensitive enough (triggered it yesterday wiping bugs off the hood before I'd unlocked the car), and the stock fob does hatch opening and windows (down), so the real question is: how to attach a nastier alarm sounder. Without a wiring diagram, finding an "alarm triggered" signal source will be tricky.

BTW, that other round hole under the windshield is the temperature sensor for climate control, so I wouldn't put another LED just there.

I've added LoJack, and there are a couple of concealed webcams pointed at my parking spot, but the problem with LoJack is that you have to know the car's gone before you can call 911. This might be a bug if you're asleep when the thief arrives. I've buried an additional (802.11b based) coded transponder in the Z as a kind of electronic "dead mans switch" that will cause one of my other computers to get upset if the transponder goes missing.

I do not understand why somebody wants a more effective alarm than the one that comes with the Z. I bunped it, the alarm goes off, polish it with the lock on - the alarm goes off, try to open the door handle when the car is locked - the alarm goes off. The only thing the OEM alarm lacks is a proximity sensor, and the recorded voice "please step away from the vehicle". I'm afraid to look at it wrong.

Does the factory alarm have impact sensors? Ive tried bumping mine a couple times and it wont alarm. Does anybody know how to adjust the sensitivity of the alarm? It only says that it will go off if doors, hatch, hood are opened without using the key or keyfob. Any info would help.

Default Window Roll Up.

I was wondering on how to make the windows roll up with the key fob. I went to an alarm place & they said that they would need to get the wiring diagram first to figure that out. The thing is that people always want to look into my car so when their nose is plastered to my windows I push a button to let them down, now the problem is when I want them back up, I have to go sit in the car, put the key in the ignition, flick the window switch, & then pull myself out of the car.

I haven't gotten my Z yet. But I read that you can put your key in the door and turn to the lock position and hold it there. The windows should roll up.

Ohh, wow you're soooo cool man, coming here bragging about your car alarm. I'd expect that kind of alarm system on a $70,000 Viper, it's not a groundbreaker.

Default Turn the key in the door.

As for turning the key in the door, that only works for letting the windows down, not up.. YOu would think that Nissan would make it able to let the windows up if they allowed you to let them down by using the remote & the key in the door, but I guess thats why I don't work for Nissan

actually, you can roll up the windows with the key (hold it in the lock position), but I don't think there is any way to do it with the fob (not that I have found). It seems like someone would be able to figure out a way to do it from the remote, since you can do it with the key, right? We need those wiring diagrams.
