If you have emission testing where you live, they will know the cats are missing.

I do this ALL the time when I see cops, I just let off and goes silent, cops RARELY even look at me in my car and I drive one of the nicer "import" cars in my area.

Well, in MN cops are too dumb to notice, or dont know its illegal, but technically we dont have emissions...so as for NJ I dont know, people generally kno wmine by the sweet rasp/rattle of the APS bees....lol.
Seriously though, it is about the easiest and cheapest hp to pick up and a solid investment if stock catback is the only way you plan on rolling. I did that for 3 years and was fine with it.

I live in CA I have berk Test pipes and the hks exhaust. I have been rock'n that set up for about a year. No problem with cops at all. As far as smog goes. Take the test pipes off put cats on get it smoged then go put the test pipes back on. Getting test pipes was the best 150$ I have spent on my car. Along side my S2K antenna

I had test pipes on for a week. I went slightly retarded driving with my windows down. It was pretty noticeable power gain but the rasp was not something i wanted to live with. Its like a dirty roommate. Smells, loud and obnoxious if you are the kind of roommate then buy TP.

I have Crawford Hi Flo Cats + HKS. The performance gain and sound alone was worth it. Plus, HF's next to TP's are comparable in gain. At least the Crawford HF's look almost OEM, and the smell is not as "strong" as TP's.

You should be safe with TP's from everyone's advice. Just don't gun it all loud around cops.

To add on my original post. When i had TP i was pretty paranoid. Any cop in a 1/2 mile radius would know if i had TP because every morning when i pull out of my neighborhood, as soon as I get down the street i hear alarms from a street over going off.

Would probably get away with it for awhile. Hope you enjoy the stink it creates though.

Btw, they are illegal in all 50 states (57 if you're a Democrat).
