Exclamation Someone talk me out of this!

I'm thinking about trading in the Z for a Titan...

First of all, I love the Z. If I could, I'd have both. However, having the Z for about 6 weeks so far, I've already spent several hundred on mods, and am planning on spending several hundreds (thousands?) more. So that's one factor...But I know I'll want to mod the Titan as well (some nice 22"s... ) but probably not as much (yeah right). I can just see that with the Z, nearly all of my disposable income is going into mods.

Second, I know I very well might lose some trading in (I'm leasing and was planning on buying at the end of lease) but I'll end up saving in the long run.

And lastly, I've just seen so many Z's on the road. And not cool owners like those I've met from this board but a lot of old grumpy women who don't wave back.

Am I just plain stupid? I hope I don't get banned for this

How are you going to trade out of your lease? I was under the impression that dealers usually add the remaining amount owed on your lease to your new vehicle payments. That could get expensive.

From what my dealer told me, and from what I've heard, if I trade it for another Nissan, I could be out anywhere from $0-500 or so, they wouldn't add the remaining amount I think because I'm keeping money in their pockets (they have the Z back to sell). If I sold the car to an individual or traded for another make then I'm sure they would add the payments, but that would be a different situation. Maybe I'm wrong...

Saw this post that sounds about the same:

You're listing this as a reason why you're thinking about getting rid of your Z? Because other Z owners in your area don't wave back to you? OK....

Right....Is anyone pointing a gun at you to force you mod your car?

Second, I know I very well might lose some trading in (I'm leasing and was planning on buying at the end of lease) but I'll end up saving in the long run.

Just how the hell do you think you can end up saving in the long run? You're gonna lose money trading in...I don't think the dealer will have mercy not to charge you a lot for breaching the lease. How do you think you can win by transferring your lease from 350z to Titan?

And lastly, I've just seen so many Z's on the road. And not cool owners like those I've met from this board but a lot of old grumpy women who don't wave back.

Aww...my neighbors are not friendly so I have to move to a new house. Do you think Titan is going to be exclusive? Why don't you just put some signs on all your windows that say "When you see me, wave!!"

Am I just plain stupid? I hope I don't get banned for this

Yes, you are. Please make sure you're not going to have son/daughter.

Default Not me...

I’m not going to stop you. You’ve only had the Z for 6 weeks, spent thousands in mods, and you’re leasing?
And now you want to trade for a truck?

Yes, you are plain stupid. And trade it as soon as possible so as not to give us other Z owners a bad name.

No, hundreds in mods...and yes, I like trucks, get over it. I should have known the intellect would quickly fly out the window on this one...

Flame on.

1) Spending several hundreds (or any amount of money) on a vehicle that is not yours isn’t a very bright move.

2) Breaking a lease after 6 weeks isn’t a very bright.

3) Spending ... nearly all of my disposable income is going into mods... isn’t a bright move.

So don’t lecture me on my intellect.

Regarding you liking trucks, I don’t have a problem with that.
Regarding your problems with … lot of old grumpy women who don't wave back…. Dude, that’s your problem. I couldn’t care less who does or doesn’t wave at you.

Peace

I hear ya! Just poking fun at you. My dad is doing the same thing. He was all set to get a G35c but then drove a Titan, even brought it home. His wife said NO!. Haha. I told him he was nuts. Then I told him the stories of the mfg plant in Mississippi where they are built from the workers who were trained in record time. Lets just say quailty control will be a big problem for a little while. They were not fully trained nor had the "experience" that is need in making cars and trucks. But then I told him the stories I have heard from the Decherd, TN plant where the engines are built. This is top notch. So not all is bad.

Look, in your post you gave the impression that your experience of not having other Z owners wave at you was one of the factors in your desire to trade in the Z for a Titan. I'm pointing out to you that this is absolutely lame. And since this appears to be so important to you, do you actually think you're going to get more waves and other superfluous attention you're seeking driving a truck?

I pretty much agree with the rest of the posters here - you made some pretty moronic decisions, like putting in a fair amount of money modding a leased car and wanting to get out of your lease a mere 6 weeks after the lease starts.

I seriously doubt you found out you 'like trucks' just in the last few weeks. If you knew that already, before you leased the Z, then why didn't you just get a truck in the first place and save yourself a bunch of money and headaches?

And finally - you actually NEED someone to talk you out of this? Sheesh - moronic.

How many people's Z are theirs I wonder? Aren't only about 10% or fewer new cars actually purchased in cash? So a bank owns the rest of them (at least partially). I agree totally on issue 2, as I'm still waiting to see just how much I'll lose. This is exactly why I chose to lease this one, because I change my mind often (I'm willing to pay the price for this). I was exaggerating on issue 3 and I was kidding on people waving back. I was just hoping to get some feedback, not lectures on leasing and mods...

Peace as well

If you change your mind often when it comes to cars, then leasing is the last thing you want to do. It costs more overall. Plus, if you lease a car with the intention of purchasing it at the end of the lease, your overall out-of-pocket expense will actually be MORE than if you decided to buy and finance the car outright. Or didn't you know that? Also, if you KNOW you change your mind often, why in the world do you sink money into a car that you know you probably won't keep for very long? AND...why were you planning to buy the Z at the end of the lease if you change your mind often??

Besides, financing a car is basically a lease with a $0 residual, and you don't get flak from the bank if you decide to get rid of the car early or sell it to a third party.

Listen, you asked for our opinions, and you're getting them, so stop complaining. You brought up the lease, mods, truck, and everything else, so they're all fair game. You want feedback? This IS our feedback.

Hm...let's see. How about we take a look at the title of this thread?

MY350Z.COM Forums > Open Forum > Coupe > Someone talk me out of this!

Now, looking at the title, I'd ASSUME that the statement "someone talk me out of this!" is a request, wouldn't you? After all, if you were set and comfortable with this decision, this thread wouldn't have existed in the first place...

Shoveit, "I was just hoping to get some feedback, not lectures on leasing and mods..."

Please man, the reason why you're getting lectured is because it's not a good idea. Plus....the dealer that told you that it would only cost you $500 to get out of your lease is full of it, they tell you that to get you to visit the dealership. You wanted real advice and people to tell you not to do the trade, and that's what you're getting.
