Also mod, please close thread.

The point of the thread was supposed to be a "Don't be that guy who tries to be cheap with tires & insurance". But if people insist on flaming, it's going to boil down to me trying to justify what I did / defend myself.

Really stupid guys, c'mon... You're worse than the guys on my local forum. But for the guys who had something constructive to bring to the discussion, thanks.

The Z is going to be rebuilt with the money out of my pocket and I will keep driving it. Have obviously learned my lesson and will not ride tires that on their wear bear indicator nor will I have liability insurance on anything but my beater.

Something constructive? Tires are the only thing that touch the road, so yes they are very important. A good driver would take his sh!tty tires into consideration so that these situations don't happen. Ultimately these accidents are always the drivers fault because they could have been prevented.

The speed limit through a yield is 15mph. You take it at more than double normally and almost double in the rain. Slow down before you kill someone.

This is not the rain's fault...

Liability (where insurance pays for the other people's bills if the accident is your fault) is required by law i believe.

Comprehensive (your own damn fault, like hitting a tree) is not required by law.

Correct me if I'm wrong since im not from NY,

You elected to post your *experience*....so now you're now getting constructive criticism and you don't like it. You made some very poor decisions from using bad tires to excessive speed for the conditions. Closing this thread will send the wrong message in this case. I see nothing wrong with the responses so far. Hopefully, you learned something here.

Sounds like someone driving like an idiot and blaming the car/environment.

Sorry, not feeling the "I hydroplaned at 25mph" story.

there is more to this such as the tires. I've lived in NY for 25 years and always drove RWD cars. I have never hydroplaned at 3Xmph.

Considering the *experience* with what I gotta do now to get the car roadworthy again. I do say I learned something. Will never drive bad tires or have liability insurance on the Z. Even though it's rough on the wallet, I think it's been a good life lesson. The main point of the thread I wanted to get across was not to take risks and drive bad tires, have a period where you have poor coverage and drive "normally" in adverse conditions. Somebody's got to be the poster-boy for the "don't do this".

Car will get rebuilt though. Almost have everything that needs to be replaced pulled off (power steering cooler is being a pain to get off) and am ordering new stuff. Will have to work my *** off to buy the rest of the stuff. Also considering getting the entire car repainted Bayside Blue (TV2) that R34's were painted come spring time.

There is nothing to justify, you have a bad driving history and are blaming conditions for your own fault. There is nothing to defend, it is what it is.

The lesson here is: carry full insurance and don't drive like a dumbass, especially in the rain.
