No.

a) I can afford new tires when I need them.
b) I drive for the conditions. Even sometimes dipping into "grandma driver" territory.

I'd advise you to learn how to drive otherwise you'll wind up like the many others that didn't. Next time do a search.

That's 68,000 miles per year, or 186 miles a day. Whadda you do; deliver pizzas to hillbillies?

if your back end is coming around, the last thing you want to do is hitting the brakes.

Exactly. And you say it was cold - what kind of rubber? Summer Performance tires are pretty shaky in the cold, and combined with water, a bad combo. As mentioned before, drive per the current conditions. Oh, and leave VDC on if you have it, you are not tracking the car.

At 35mph, that would have to be a very deep puddle.

I've hydroplaned the Z a couple times before on the freeway at 70, at night, when I've hit puddles that I could see. This has happened when all four wheels have hit the water or just the driver's side. Not once have I allowed the Z to do anything but slow down in a straight line. Even so, every single time that has happened it has been MY FAULT because I was an idiot and driving too fast for conditions.

Your first mistake was driving too fast for conditions (35pmh was too fast for that puddle).
Your second mistake was touching the brakes.

this was your first mistake...don't hit the brakes. give it alittle gas and turn the wheel in the opposite direction...try it! it's fun!

I'm still trying to figure out the reason for this thread?? Are you just randomly asking if others have hydroplaned in their cars because you did it?? Or, are you asking what you did wrong??

You mentioned you don't race, except for at the track. Are you seriously telling us you've tracked your car and STILL don't realize you shouldn't hit the brake when driving through a puddle??

IDK, you're weird, I call BS on this thread. You're just looking for attention....

Just drive with caution when it's wet out i'm sure you will learn from it and go slow next time.
