Arrow What was your Close Encounter....2 close 4 comfort

Now all of us have been driving for a while, some longer then other. Some are more skilled and experienced but all of us have had a close encounter...meaning almost got in an accident but some how cheated death.

I had a 2004 Acura TL and was stupid enough to race a V8 Toyota Tacoma. I was young, stupid and inspired by Fast and Furious; the truck was infront of me and he gunned it so I gunned it too I reeled him in but then the lane I was driving in was an exit; I thought that he will give me room to come in but he didn't ..pissed me off so I kept on gunning and starting driving on the emergency lane, smoked him and then cut right infront of him. I had a smile on my face and was like he got that joy was short lived cause actually I was the one who got ownned. The road was curving fast and I was doing over 105+ ddaaaammmmmnnn I was screwed.....didnot loose my cool and jam on the brakes cause that would have been a disaster / I took the turn and braked as much as I could without losing control. I remember the tires screaming and my head smashing the driverside window due to the G force...some how I did not crash and walked away.

Did not want to bore you but thought may be we all can share and learn from each others experiences. Have fun but be safe out there.

I was on the way to a concert in a small town in upstate new york on a 2 lane road that was packed due to all of the people going to the concert. About 1 kilometer up the road there was a stop light that had police directing traffic and at the time it was pretty backed up. There was a state trooper on the side of the road on my right and as I passed him I came to a stop because of the traffic ahead. There were 4 pretty spaced out cars behind me, the last being a guy in an F250 who happened to be driving a bit too fast. He drove past the state trooper and naturally looked in his rear view mirror to see if the cop pulled out behind him to nab him for speeding. Unfortunately for him he wasn't paying attention to the stopped traffic ahead of him and he slammed into the back of a hyundai accent at about 55mph. It pushed the accent basically right under an older cavalier and then out into oncoming traffic. The cavalier then got slammed into a mid/late 80s jeep cherokee which was right behind me. The jeep got slammed forward as well.

It was so weird because I happened to have left almost 2 car lengths between me and the giant truck in front of me and for whatever reason I stopped and put the car in first with the clutch pushed in when I normally stop and put the car in neutral. I heard the initial collision and popped the clutch and drove forward stopping about 2 inches from the bumper of the truck in front of me, whose bumper was at about eye level. The old solid jeep behind me got pushed to within 2 inches of slamming into my rear bumper. I had come within 3 inches of being sandwiched between two solid vehicles in a tiny little civic. The F250 that started the accident was barely damaged. The accent that got hit was completely totalled. I mean destroyed. The engine pushed the firewall back, the hatch was crushed through the back seats. The cavalier that the accent hit suffered a similar fate. The jeep that almost hit me was unharmed.

It was so random the way it played out and how I was set up at that exact moment so I could move forward and avoid being in an accident in a foreign country. It definitely got my heart pumping after I realized exactly what happened.

1) Flipped over on the FWY after a blown *retread* tire let go.
wound up going into a ditch and a cement pylon went through the windshield and 1/2" away from my face.
2) Hit by a freight train going through a blind crossing with no drop bar and no visabilty. The only thing present was a swinging light off to the side. Hit me broad side an tossed my car off the tracks.

Both the above occured when I was young and stupid.
Yes..I'm a lucky MUTTHAFUKA...

Heres my story of cheating death...
About 11:00 at night and it was sprinkling on and off through out the day. I was stopped at a light and a white srt4 pulled up next to me, reved at me, turned on his blue neons and really pissed me off lol. My gf was behind me in her 350z (yes my gf drives a black 6sp vert with wheels and a full sound system... 5 1' 107 lbs i know i know back to the story lol) she shakes her head because she knows how i drive and what i was going to do. But anyways light turns green, im about 5-6 cars ahead and the road starts to slightly turn to the right and then to the left, my rear end starts to slide just a bit, nothing i havent been used to but then it starts to slide a bit more as im going through the turn, mind this is going at about 90-95 mph... i cut the wheel a bit to the left to straighten the car out and as soon as i do that the car does a 360, i hit the curb so hard that i bounced on top of it, went on the sidewalk, hit a wall, about 20+ bushes, cracked a tree in half, and slid back onto the road... Guy in the srt4 pulls up next to me and starts laughing and takes off... I honestly dont remember what happened because i blacked out when i was spinning but i did about 5-6 360s and skidded about a 100 yards before the car stopped. I didnt think the damage was that bad because i didnt know i hit the wall till later on after i got out of the car... My front bumper was torn off, my cf hatch got ripped off when i hit the wall, all 4 of my wheels were cracked, my radiator support was cracked and twisted, my control arms and rear tie rods were snapped in half... Got a 10k check from allstate and the damages were only about 5-6k max...

walked away without a scratch and airbags didnt even deploy... i hit the wall and left a hole the size of a basketball in it and i hit it in my rpassanger rear quarter panel next to the gas tank... if i would have hit it head on i doubt i would be here right now...
Car is still being fixed and repainted, since i got such a huge check im going with all aftermarket parts so the car is coming back harder than before.. But seriously guys drive safe it was a real eye opener for me...

Window were rolled up and radio on.. buildings on both sides of the track blocked visability. By the time I saw the swagging light above and cars stopped on the other side, it was too late. I had to make a decision to slam my brakes and possibly wind up ON the tracks stopped, or race through. I chose the latter and got hit. Passenger, my wife then, had several broken ribs..my chest broke the steering wheel and only bruised. The car, a VOLSWAGON 411, was totaled.

Well ive got one that was very close to saying byby to the Z. I went to test drive a wrx sti in keller, during the test drive my best friend sitting in the back seat asked me to try and loose the back end and test the AWD traction the sti is known for. The next right turn I took I lost the back end dirty, went nearly sideways unexpectedly In the wrx sti. After the test drive finished I began driving home and the rain just got worse. Starting to slide every turn I take, until finally I take a left turn and my car freewheels, does a 180 over three lanes and gets stuck in a mud pit.

-note to self- Replace rear tires often

Man that was a close one. Glad it was not you who got sandwiched.
