0-60 times with Passport G-Timer
I just got a Passport G-Timer (Christmas present from my wife) and decided to try it out. I couldn't resist going out the day after Christmas even though it was raining, and managed a 5.6 second 0-60 run in the wet, which I was quite pleased with. The next day in the dry I managed a 5.30! (I have a totally stock 2003 Performance model with about 20,000 miles on it)
I wonder how accurate this is? I am using the default settings for lift angle compensation (or whatever it's called) that is supposed to correct for the car's angle shifting due to suspension compression under acceleration. Does anyone else have any experience with this device? Any comparisons to track times?
My times sound a bit optimistic, but of course I am more than happy to believe them!

wow those are some serious good times. But how did you do the 5.6 when it was wet? Do a 1/4mile run and see what it gives you. A high 13/low 14 would mean the device is accurate. Only used Gtech sorry I cant be of more help
yea, i got the g-timer too. supposedly their accurate to within a tenth of a second or two. when they were doing r&d escort did extensive track tests to evaluate its accuracy. even though it corrects for slight deviations in the angle of the road, i still try to find the flatest, most level area i can. i usually get 5.42 or slightly higher, cause i'm still learning to properly control wheelspin at launch. this is probably the best thing about this device. however, one time i did get 5.07, but havent been able to reproduce it (i have an '03 5at touring w/ k&n typhoon intake and about 3k miles). all in all i'm really pleased with the g-timer, and it will save alot of money compared to runs at the track (although i still will wind up going).

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try a 1/4 mile run next (once I find the right road for it.) As for traction in the wet, my new Potenza S-03 seem to give a lot better traction than the stock ones did. I got some wheelspin on the 5.6 run, but it hooked up pretty quickly.
The G-Timer works great in my car because I installed an Alpine head unit with the two-slot adapter, and the G-Timer fits perfectly in the bottom slot! I just push it in and the suction cups stick to the top surface and the unit is held in firmly. Perfect spot for it, and no installation required.
The power cord is a bit taught, so I am going to get an extender. The location of the power socket in the 350Z is pretty inconvenient for things like this.
For anyone considering it, I would recommend the Passport G-Timer -- it's really well designed and easy to use.

Best time for me was:
0-60mph = 5.2s
1/4 mile = 13.77 @ 103.7mph
I have a stock 03 Touring 6MT. I guess I have a home made ground kit, but I consider that stock.
My avg 1/4 mile run was 14.0s @ 102mph.
Make sure you have a/c off... with a/c on my avg run was 14.5s.

FYI for everyone...
These are only about $150-$250 depending on whether you get the GT1 or GT2 version. Look at this link
You can pick one up even cheaper on eBay.
If I had thought to get one sooner, I would have used one of these to measure the relative gains of my modifications. As it is, I may get on still just to see how my car stacks up against my friends. It may not be 100% accurate, but it'll be pretty close and as long as you use the same device in all cars measured, the relative comparison is accurate.

I launch at about 2000-2500rpm, and don't drop the clutch either.
