Question Problem while filling up with gas.

So you know while your getting gas, how once your tank is full, it forces the handle down so your tank doesn't overflow, and if you try to pull it again it will force the handle down right away? Well recently my car has been doing this more and more.. at first it started doing it while my tank was 1/2 full.. and I knew it wasn't full because I only reached $40 its saying its full.. When it happens, I try putting the nozzle in on different angles etc but once it 'thinks' its full there's no tricking it. so I just have to hang it up and say screw it half is good enough for now.

So usually it will fill right to full ~ ($75) in one shot, but recently its been doing it more and more and today I only reached 1/4 tank and it 'thought' it was full and forced the handle down.. so now I'm getting worried that it's going to start doing it every time or something.. I just want to fill my tank and be on my way

I realize this is a very odd question and I doubt anyone has ever had this problem.. but if you have or just know of a solution, please feel free to enlighten me

Thanks!

I've had this problem since I bought my car back in 05. It only happens at certain gas stations or with certain nozzles. Possibly with the way it seals up with the car causing the false stop. It gets annoying but rarely happens.

it happens to me all the time as well, it just depends on what gas stations i go to, I have figured out which ones to avoid now, but it has always happened to me.

you guys that are having the problem, have you had the tsb completed for the fuel hose? i am curious because i was having this problem recently, and never had the tsb done. curious if i should take the car in for that, or if i even can still have it done.

dont think it has something to do with the vapor building up pressure and forcing the gas handle to shutoff? the fill tube is probably angled really sharp to prevent thieves, and the gas handle and pump flows faster these days and that might cause the funnel to fill up and shut the handle off...try pulling it out a lil and put it on a slower speed when filling

I agree with other posters.
Different gas stations,different results.
I gas up at the ones that have no problems.
It is what it is,don't stress on something that
you really can't fix.

I had the same problem with mine and the dealer told me it was the gas station pumps causing the problem. I told him about all the reports here about the same issue and he claimed he knew nothing about it.

One day while attempting to fill up it happened at my BP station. I eventually drove to 2 other stations (all different brands) and the problem persisted so I knew it wasn't the station pumps.

Later there was a TSB which they performed and it solved the problem.

I have an 07Z and it does this too. It really depends on the gas station I try to fill it up at. Certain Parkers stations works find and certain one doesn't fill all the way. I don't really care since I never go on road trip with my Z anyways. 5 gallons of gas will get me around town just fine.

You have to be gentle with her… just stick the head in a little bit, don't cram the whole thing in there. That's what works for me.

Turn the nozzle 180 degrees. Yes, upside down. Trust me. I've been on here a long time, old issue, old solution. Good luck.
