Opinions Wanted: TT the Z or Trade-in for Evo IX/X
First off heres the stats, I have about a little less than a year and a half left to finish paying off my 04' Z, it currently has about 78k miles. Ive been unemployed for a few months and will be starting a new job on monday. Yes, i will be making more than what I was getting on EDD. So anyways,
Ever since I got the Z I personally thought it was pretty slow, I do understand that its heavy, but anyways my last car before the Z was a 300whp civic, so yes it was a whole lot faster then what i have now. So ive been thinking since im going to start working soon, If I should trade in my Z for an Evo IX, maybe an X if i can find a good deal. Reason being, I like the way they look, they are already boosted, and there AWD, which is something I want to try out being a car enthusiast and all.
So now on to the dilemma. My friend is selling me his JWT TT set up for less than half the price its worth, He's even willing to do a payment plan with me. So now idk if I should stick with my car and TT it and later sell it down the road personally or just trade it in for an Evo.
What do u guys think?
things ive took into consideration: once i hit 100k miles i know the value drops .
Also I live in Cali, from what I see, people don't really have 8-10k in cash to buy a car personally, it seems like anyone can get a car off the dealer now a days. Plus I would assume the buyers market for a Z now a days is not really older individuals with money, and is more kids out of high school with no money. those are just my assumptions.

So you wanna ditch the Z for a Mitsubishi...arguably one of the worst car companies out there...thats cool, im ditching my junker for a Lexus...i say have fun with it!
I'm getting married this summer and I live in KS (110 summers, snow all winter) so take what I say with a grain of salt. I say get the Evo but only if it's the Evo X. Your car is 8 years old and Evo X's would only be 4 years old. I've driven a Lancer and they're quite easier to drive than the 350z's are. idk, if it was me (considering there is **** weather here and I'm about to start a family) I'd get the Evo.
p.s. Evo X's drive smoother and look way better than the IX's

hmm, I can kind of agree, but I do respect the 4g63 a little more then the flawed VQ, let alone, I wouldnt get any other mitsu than an Evo,. Its kind of like, i dont really like domestics, but I do respect a cobra or srt8 jeep. I just want to try AWD, and a Subaru, idk..im not familiar at all with box engines.
Evo, honestly, due to what you're looking for - more power, more space, etc. And the 4g63 is an AMAZING platform. I was looking at Evo's prior to the Z, but I love everything about the Z, and didn't mind being slow and stock. Just think, by the time you pay the Z off in a year and a half, assuming you drive an average amount of miles, you're gonna be real close to the 100k mark. I know these VQ engines are great, but regardless of how good they are - mistakes happen when you throw boost even into brand new engines. The Evo however would be bone stock, and faster than the Z.

A bolt-on tuned evo/sti is gonna be faster then a stock block turboed Z. the AWD just dominates from a dig. However a boosted Z is very fun and different. I had this same question when looking for a faster car. but i also didn't want another car payment. I still think about an evo/sti here and there.
i would get an evo x. it's IMO, an upgrade. evo x is more on the level of the 370z as in terms of comparison.
the evo 9, i would say no. some of you who are more familiar with that platform, knows how cheaply made that car is besides the motor. Single stage paint(who does this anymore), brembo calipers fading, cheap interior plastics, cheap fading exterior rubber trims, etc. this car can look old and crappy fast. its a nice car new, but very hard to upkeep.

Also, the STI is alright without modding it too much. Ringland failures due to Subaru's bad tune at WOT, which in fact runs very lean at that range. You can make it reliable, but it costs a lot.
He'll be satisfied with the power of the evo and maybe not so much the luxuries. The STI is good as well, but as long as he get a good pro-tune or just the COBB AP with the 93 or 91 octane map, he should be set. The 4b11t and the 4g63 are very stout motors like I said.
If you get the EVO, and keeping the warranty matters to you....you can only mod to the extent in which your mods doesn't void the warranty. Seems like popping the hood open is close to voiding warranties. IMO, you'd be feinding to do more but you'd be limited....on the other hand...Z is paid in a year....it's yours....you have a killer deal on a TT kit and do what you want to it. Build the Z!!
Is 260+ HP at the wheels really that important ? The cars are pretty quick as is. Do you race it, really need the extra power, do you want to start over with the car payment.
That right there should tell you, you should go TT. If your the one that loves driving different cars every few years, then get Evo because your Z will be worthless in a few years. When you go TT, you definitely will not get a good price when trading it in. If the Z keeps you smiling, you should keep smiling by keeping the Z. My cuz's Evo is all-built up, but I just see his looking like a kid racer car, the Z is more mature. All in all, do whatever makes you happy.
well..damn a lot of you have great points..and I can totally agree with the not so great quality of an Evo IX as far as interior. Also didnt really think about the reliability of boosting a NA car, So yes, I do agree a stock FI car will be more reliable compared to boosted Z. Also I can agree with an evo being a "kid race car" in terms of attention. I mean when I had a civic. Yes i will get a lot of attentions from mostly dudes cuz of my swap and what not, but when i got my Z the type of attention i got was more of a "mature" way im sure you guys can probably relate, But how society is now a days, at least here in Los Angeles, it seems like the Z is turning out to be the next "civic".. but damn..when i had been thinking of this for a while now and when writing this thread,, i was mostly headed with the twin turbo kit..but now im back to square one on wanting to get an Evo lol...lets keep the opinions coming...& yes i do know at the end of the day its whatever makes me happy, but it does help to have other ppls input. & thanks for that.

owned an sti, went to the Z. same year, still consider it an upgrade. sure their quicker, and more practical weather pending. but i promise youll miss the Z. it has an integrity of handling those other cars dont get. ive driven an '11 sti, ill always love them, but its just not the same. im not bias, i love the evo 9. ive been there, owning an AWD turbo, but i say pay it off. ditch the car payment, congrats on the new job. build her up and run it until it dies.
