Rumor has it that Nissans next Z line may completely eliminate the VQ V6 and be replaced with a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. I dont know about this one.. Smaller and lighter is a plus, but 4 cylinder really?? what do you guys think?
i would like to see the motor as an option, much like the hyundai genesis you can have the 4cyl turbo or the v6, or even make a new platform of car to compete in the fr-s br-z market.
The model will also be geared toward a wider audience, and Nissan may be investigating the possibility of ditching the tried-and-true 3.7-liter VQ V6 for a turbocharged four-cylinder, a move that would almost certainly help fuel efficiency. The current Z is saddled with a lackluster 26 mpg highway, and strong early sales of cars like the Scion FR-S certainly indicate certain buyers are willing to drop a few ponies for a machine that's engaging to drive and at least somewhat fuel efficient.
Investigating the possibility does not mean a definitive yes.
I find most production rumors (regardless of product) are controversial. This may be to hype up and bring attention to the product before it is even released.
In the case of the Z cars, current owners are getting all pissed and dreamers are getting excited. When the car is finally released (probably with a V6) the current owners are going to be so happy they will look into buying a new one, and the dreamers will have been so hyped up that some will likely shell out the extra money.

A 4 cylinder turbo would definitely be interesting to see.
Might not be too bad, and I don't think Nissan would completely eliminate the V6.
This was posted last week...same topic.
4cyl ain't gonna happen.
Same reason why Pagani is a v-12 instead of a v-8.The customer expects it
Same with the Z.A 6 is in the DNA.
6cyl turbo supplied by Mercedes is more than a probable.
End of VQ is on the horizon
Not a chance. The Z has been a 6 cylinder since 1970. Some things you just don't mess with.
This. If Nissan were to produce a four cylinder sports car, it's virtually guaranteed to be a smaller, lighter chassis with a lower price tag intended to take on the FR-S.
I think the Z line should start competing with the new mustangs and camaros. Not saying they can't already but clearly these cars are getting better times then the most updated Z. I was hoping for a turbo'd 6cyl but I wasn't expecting it. It's all just a rumor though.
