I'd personally change the oil between 500-1000 miles to get rid of residual metal praticles in the young engine, and then every 1500-2000 miles thereafter.

I would change it right after 1200miles, which is the break-in period. But it's up to you.

Not necessary. Everyone is so keen to follow manufacturers recommendation for the break-in period, the theory being that they should know best. But when it comes to recommended oil change intervals, everyone seems to think that somehow the manufacturer got it wrong.

My advice: follow the recommended service intervals and you'll be in good shape. You're free to make up your own rules or follow superstition based on engines from the past if that's what makes you happy, but there's no real need for it.

Several people have stated (and I have read documentation) that most or all modern engine manufacturers put special addins into the factory oil to aid in engine break-in and you could do your engine harm by changing it out too early. We have not gotten a definite statement from Nissan that they have used these addins with the Z, but it sounds like they probably did. Because of that, my first change (to Synth) will be around 3500 miles.

(This is a good thread. I'd suggest everyone read it)
