Front plate removal
Since I switched my pre-ordered car for a readily available cancelled pre-order on my dealer's lot, they already had the front plate on. If you are planning on removing, beware, as the bracket put 2 other, rather large, chips/scrapes in the front bumper, just inboard and slightly above the screw holes. I'm going to try to touch-up and also do something with the screw holes before the x-pel goes on. If it looks bad, I guess I'll put my naval aviator wings license plate on the car, although, I'd rather have it clean. They didn't show up that great from this angle, but they are there and noticeable.

Glad to see you went to the silver side of life. How is the new house treating you? I figured you were staying fairly busy with all the new goodies.
Closing on selling our old house in a couple of days, going to recurrent qual/simulators in a week and a half, in the last month, moved, went on a 4 day cruise, installed blinds, painted garage floor and garage walls, installed 6300 sf of sod, and flew to nc to get Z. Thank god I had all of august off.
No kidding, you've been busy.
Did you end up putting that sealant type paint down on the garage floor? I couldn't tell in the other pics. Did you get the Z painted on the wall and how did you end up doing it?
Congrats on all. What aircraft are you requalling on? Someday for me, someday.

Argh! If it's one thing Nissan went butt-backwards on it's that front license plate. The previous Z (90-96) had a license plate bracket that bolted from under/behind the bumper and you bolted your license plate on that bracket. No holes drilled, no damage done.
Michael.
Michael.
2003z are you really in Atlanta? And if so, why in GOd's name did the dealer put the front plate on in a state that doesn't require a front license plate?! Were they hoping you'd advertise for them or something?
I almost freaked when I was picking up my car and the dealer just mentioned putting one of their logo decals on the rear... I think I would have strangled the guy if he ruined my Z by installing that God awful front plate.
Not requiring that piece of cr@p, is one of the true pluses of living down here in the south (that, the good weather, real college football, and the beautiful southern belles).

Goober, yes I did the floor, its awesome. about $900 though, for the 850 s.f. garage, so its a little pricy. Haven't got the Z logo yet. tcbz is printing one for me.
Guido,
Yes I'm in atlanta, Loganville actually. I bought the car in North Carolina though. While they don't have a front plate either, it wa a cancelled pre-order, that I swapped for the Lemans that I had originally ordered from them. They weren't going to put a front plate on mine, but since this became a lot car, they did it to it. The owner originally didn't want to swap my order, because he didn't want to be stuck with a Lemans (Elizabeth City is a very small town in the middle of the sticks), but my salesman reminded him he could swap with another dealer. The owner intended this car to be his own, but he really wanted a touring anyway.

You could fill the holes with "spot putty" which you can get at an auto parts store. Then get some touch paint up at the dealer.
An even faster but not as perfect fix is to put some silver silicone in the holes.

I was unlucky enough to also have had the front license plate installed before I bought the car (cancelled pre-order). Yes, it is from the screws, they are to long (maybe once you have a plate and nice frame it won't matter). Mine bumper actually has some paint chipped from the screw
Someone posted the following site: www.bumperplugs.com.
I sent them an email and they said that I need to measure the holes to see if their product will fit. Haven't gotten around to it yet, but when I do I will post my response from them.

Hi,
It's been a while since you guys posted. How did you go about covering the hole from the front license plate? I just got my car and my front plate was on as well.
I talked to my dealer and they said I would have to wait if I wanted another 350Z with no front plate. I can't wait anymore for this car and decided to go ahead and make the deal happen. Now I have the car, did you guys find a way to cover up the hole and get a matching color to the bumper? If so do you have any pics?

On my old car I just used little rubber plugs my brother found. I don't know where he found them, but I bet Home Depo or somesuch place has them. I don't think they'd look half bad if you get a couple of those and paint them with touch up paint. It's not going to be much worse than the standard indentations at least.
