Angry What is up with this.............?

What kind of "brake pads" is Nissan using? "DUST R US" I mean damn, I can't drive and brake for a couple of miles without the wheels becoming "dustladen"!!! Well, I guess I'll be ordering some EBC's like REAL SOON!

Word. Uh, I mean, yeah I think that sucks, too. Doesn't BMW use OEM pads that spew dust if you just look at 'em wrong? Seems like every beemer I see has black front wheels. Will the dust stop after the pads are all seated? How many miles do you have, TXSTYLE? I'm at 850.

I'm at ~1,630 miles. I wipe my wheels down every night.

No sh** on those Bummer, I mean Bimmer brakes. But I don't think seating will help these ****'s! I have exactly 493 miles after one week!

My brakes are a nightmare. I curse BMW every time I wash these wheels, partly for the brake dust, partly for the design that makes them impossible to clean. You guys with big easy to clean spokes have it so easy

My boy has that exact same car and exact same wheels, an he concedes your thoughts. Well all I know, is I will be searching for the least "dusty" brakes out there! But cross-drilled and or slotted rotors would help tremendously.

My (now my Wife's) SLK230 pumps out a lot of brake dust too, about the same or worse than the 350Z. You just have to keep wiping them down (or get used to that grimy grey look)!

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like they are just soft brake pads. You can always go to a harder pad but that may do more damage to the rotor. I wouldn't be surprised if BMW, Mercedes and the Z use softer brake pads to help stop the rotors from being worn. Isn't it much easier and less expensive to replace some pads than the pads and rotors?

Just a thought. I don't know too much about the details of brake design (other than mechanical engineering general theory stuff).

Do the pads on the Track model's Brembo brakes produce a lot a dust as well?

I guess it's all realitive but on my cars now I can turn the wheels black in 1 day. Price I pay for running Carbotech Panther + and XP pads. You think BMWs look bad, come see mine. I do run Hawk HP+ for the cold months and they make BMW dusting look minimal.

TXSTYLE,

EBC claims to not dust...that's not the case. I've used EBC reds and greens...they both dust plenty! I've also used Porterfield R4 and R4S, Hawk...which all dust. The problem is, better performance usually goes hand in hand with dusting. Also, if you ever plan on tracking your car, stay away from EBC Green. I completely burned a set up in one day at Pocono North in my Type R. Porterfield or Hawk Blue would be far superior for track applications.

Looks like I might be getting a mini-size California Duster just for the wheels!

When I first saw the freshly cleaned test mule come back from a short drive with black wheels, I knew this would be a problem.
