I have been looking to pick up a 350z for a while now, My budget was 25k but it just so happens I found one right around the corner from me for 7k but it has 170k miles on it. I could easily just outright but this one and deal with no loan but I have never had a car any where close to that amount of miles, I normally get ride of them at 50-75k. I would only be putting about 5-10k miles a year if that on it. What I really want to know is are these engines prown to go at 150-175k or are they at the 200-250k mark. I do understand that it wont be like a new car where when something does go wrong with this it is more likely to be more serious timing belt, drive or clutch. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

I am very sorry, I am not sure what HRAES is, even with a quick google I couldn't find it.

 

I think at that point in a car's life it's not possible to generalize. If the car has been taken care of, the car CAN last longer but there's never a guarantee. One thing you could do it test drive it and see how it runs. You could also do a compression test. If its still got good compression you should be able to get some miles out of it. I'd talk them down in price too. It's cheap, but for that many miles, I'd offer less.

The VQ engine with ordinary maintenance,can easily go 200k miles plus.There are many Z
with this kind of miles on the clock.On buying a used Z,it depends on the care from the previous owners.It would be common sense to have any car with miles you are taliking about checked out by a person knowlegeable about a Z.More than likely,woth that many miles,some critical parts may have been replaced.All in all,the VQ engine is very forgiving.
Very easy to maintain.I've had my Z going on 10 years,pushing 90k.It runs better than new.

If your budget is higher, why not get one with less miles that way you don't have to worry about it?

 

Buy it and do the LS swap.

That's an amazing amount of miles. I can't imagine having that many on my Z.

 

I have 180k on mine. Never needed so much as new hoses (but I bought all new ones to swap out over the winter).

I don't drive mine in snow, and avoid rain when I can. Looks fantastic for its age (2003 Track).

They'll go as far as you maintain them. I'm planning on 250k with mine, and then depending upon the condition of the body at that time (which is near perfect right now, save for the bug and stone chipped front end), I may build the engine with a turbo setup, and keep it.

This is what I would do if I were you. If you got 25k to spend buy the z for 7k. Then do engine rebuild but put in stronger internals and forged engine block. Then go and buy turbo or supercharger, and you still would have money left over for suspension and brake upgrades.

 

or this. this actually might be a better option because you can get 450hp na, but gas mileage will probably be worse than 3.5 liter engine. I know this can be done for 12k at a shop in Tampa Bay Florida. Full swap including labor.
