Default New to the Z! I have two questions.

I am looking to purchase a used Z in the 2006-2008 range. But I have a few questions before I do.

Question 1. What would be best, or save gas more in a small town with many stop signs, a manual or automatic?

I'm thinking of going automatic since it is easier to drive. I wont be doing any modding or anything to the car, I want to keep everything stock.

Question 2. How much will it costs to have someone remove the small oem spoiler and plug in the holes in the trunk?

I don't want a spoiler on my car and was wondering if I get one with a spoiler, that I can have someone remove it and plug in the holes.

I thought I had more than two questions but can't think of them now. My memory is not that good. But anways, thanks for your time in answering my questions.

1) If you're looking to save gas, the Z is not the car for you. I'm sure most on this board prefer the six speed manual, I sure do. It's a great gearbox with excellent feel and rock solid function.

2) As for the rear spoiler, you do realize it was an option, right? There are plenty of used Zs for sale without them. That would be the best and cheapest way. If you buy one with a spoiler, you can have it removed and spend several hundred at a body shop to have the holes filled and the hatch repainted. Or you can spend much less to use body colored plugs to fill in the holes.

I'm not looking to save, was just wondering which one would eat up more gas in a small town. And yes I do know that the spoiler is an option, but I'm looking for a certain color and the ones I see with the color I like have spoilers. I like the dark grey one.

In theory the MT should give better gas mileage. In reality it's all based in how you drive the car. Drive it like a maw-maw and you'll get better mileage then if you drive it like it was made to be driven.

It's a sports car. Don't worry about mileage.

Neither tranny will save you gas, the car is not designed to save gas, its designed to go fast. Each tranny is very excellent and fun to drive, just pick one you would have more fun driving.

The small oem spoiler I would keep on the car if your trying to keep it stock, only reason is because the removal of the spoiler and plugs could lower the value of the car if you choose to resell.

Thanks all for the replys. I have my eyes set on a dark blue 2008 Nissan 350Z Enthusiast and want to get it tomorrow. But the thing is, bank of America is closed and I don't have any checks to write for a down payment. Is there anyway to get some money from my account on a Sunday? I have a debit card but there is a limit on how much you can take out of an atm. Im looking to take out 5k.

well your SOL, no bank is open on sundays and if you have a debit card, im pretty sure the dealer can take a debit payment for your down payment, if they cant take debit cards, i wouldnt buy the car from there.

Get the max out of the ATM (usually $300-500). Go to the dealer and have them put a 24 hour hold on the car. This will allow you to go to the bank on Monday. Most reputable dealers will do this.

Get a manual. Definitely.

And for the spoiler: I had a 2006 350Z Grand Touring and it had the small OEM spoiler. There are two holes for screws and it is also sealed to the hatch by 3M tape. I had the spoiler and badges removed, holes filled and hatch repainted for $250.

Where are you in Florida, and where is the car you're interested in? Maybe you can get someone on the forum to go take a look at it before you make a long drive.

I might just wait until tomorrow or next weekend. Do you think it will still be there? I live a 7 hour drive away from it. Here is the car. http://tinyurl.com/agcrzh7

My 03 has less mileage. Unless you're getting them to knock off a nice chunk, I'd pass. You could find some nice Z's in the 15k range from private sellers. Just my .02..
