So I am one of those guys that just am always buying and selling cars. About a year ago I traded in a S2000 for a 370z and then a month later it got caught in a flash flood. So now about a year later since I work out of town most of the time I really don't wanna drop 20k+ on a car. I am still learning about the 350 mad really am noticing there is a lot more to them, then just a change Of years. So apparently the 07 and 08 have an HR 3.5 in them which stands for High Rev. I assume that this motor is better for modifying, plus I like the factory wheels on the newer ones better. Any other major changes?

Most car forums have a newb section or a thread that has all general newbie questions answered in it.

- 07 and 08 have the same HR motor, more horsepower, higher redline
- You get more from the start, but there are more FI options for the DE's (just noting that), HR's have a couple but not as much of a market. If you're staying N/A, HR is a great platform.
- ^ Mentioned the rest (headlights, taillights, hood has a bump instead of two lines, dual intakes, etc.)

de if you ever plan to go fi. hr is you want to stay n/a. fi route for the hr is expensive.

I like my DE. If you are looking for a car to just drive and enjoy, both DE and HR are good.

I love my HR. For the reason is because I like all around balance both power, weight distribution, suspension and brake setup, so I choose to stay all out NA on my HR. For others, some like raw power of the VQ35, so they go with FI setup. But you have to remember FI adds more weight to the front of the car, the front car is already heavy, so that throw of the weight balance and distribution of the car. Plus, you have to consider the reliability of FI is unpreditable, because there are so many variables to mess up your engine. If you want a balance car, I would advice you to get an 07-08 HR to stay NA full bolts on, cams and maybe stroker kit. But if you want raw power, getting an 03-06 DE or UP REV to go with FI. I would find a cheap 03 350Z, have the engine fully rebuilt to be able to handle boost from FI. Both setup would make you run into the same price. Good luck on hunting down your Z.

moving the battery to the back, or get a light weight battery will offset any extra weight.

im not saying the de isnt any fun n/a, i do enjoy mine. but the hr pulls, not harder, but longer due to the higher rpm and better breathing dual throttles.

All 350z cars 06+ have the weight distribution, suspension, and brake setup your looking for, try to find an 08 or 07 for cheap if not 06s go for less but be weary of the oil consumption with the manuals, the autos have no problems. IF your planning to go FI, do some research, what was said above is crap, there are plenty reliable FI setups on the forums right now, two of them being vortech superchargers and the JWT twin turbo kits, just follow the leader on others builds, learn from their mistakes and you will be fine. Going FI wont mess up your weight distribution to where the car's handling is thrown off. If you do want a balanced car your going to have to balance your car stock and work from there because ALL 350zs come with a 53%F/47%R weight distribution.

All in all do some research man and make the decision on your own.

I would recommend to stay away from rev up engines (05 Anniversary and 06 years), it's a gamble.

I have an 06 rev up, but I got "lucky." Long story short, it was under warranty and my tranny, clutch + flywheel and a version 2 short block was installed...not one dime cost to me though. Engine runs strong.

I've owned both DE's and HR's and have built both in NA form and DE form. The HR is an all around better vehicle from the get-go, and don't be hesitant when it comes to boosting it if you feel that's the direction you want to go. There are plenty of options out there for both.

No, it is a fact, not crap. What those FI guys don't tell you is all the high maintance and problems they have to face, plus load of money and time. The reason I gave advice to get a really cheap 03 350z for turbo setup is because chances you wil find more high mileage 03 350z to completely rebuilt the engine with strong and fresh internal parts to handle boost safely and reliably at once.
Tell me if I am wrong, 100 lbs of all of those turbo hardware add to the front end won't mess up the weight distribution?
With 53%F, I would estimate that 100 lbs would add another 2%F, which would be 55%F/45%R. That is 10% differential in weight distribution in the 350Z. For me I don't think it is a well balance car for that add weight. Not to mention, happy foot throttle on turbo car will light up the tires in the rear, lol.

Worried about weight distribution with the turbo? Rear mounted setup. That's what I plan on doing for my DE.
