In a dilemma, need some HELP!
Hey guys,
So I have recently been thinking of trading in the z for a g37. Reasons for getting the g: I want something with more luxury; stays in the nissan/vq family; looks classy and more business like. However, the main reason I want to upgrade is due to comfort. Now im not sure if my current harsh/firm/shitty ride is due to the d2 coils I have(i know you guys are going to say it is lol), but I don't like driving the z anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love the way my z looks, i think i like it a little more than a nicely modded g. But steering wheel vibrates at high speeds, bumps/dips in the road make me feel like im going to break my back, and ride is way too harsh. I am a few months away from paying off the car, and one thing holding me back is payments for another two to three years. Would I be better off getting the g(making at least another 8-10k in payments), or upgrading to kw v1/3 coils for the 350z? Will coils of this caliber make me happy enough to keep the z?

Another factor to consider is that the current 2013 G37 is sure to take a bigger depreciation hit than usual. The 2014 Q40 will replace it next year.
Put the OEM springs back on and pay off the Z. Your ride will improve by leaps and bounds. Then you can choose between a GREAT deal on a G37 or a new Q40 when it debuts later this year.

Steering wheel vibrations are not normal, could be a sign of something that could turn into a serious repair cost down the road and I suggest you check it out now before it gets worse. But you should of known the ride quality was going to suffer when you switched to aftermarket coils so you kinda brought this on yourself. I agree with dkmura, go back to stock springs, if your not happy get a g37 and stay away from hardcore sports cars because bad ride quality is something that usually most sports cars suffer from unless your willing to from 100k+ on an Aston Martin to get the sports car feel with none of the bad sports car qualities.

I wouldn't say your steering wheel vibrating at high speeds and feeling chitty overall is from coils. I'd associate that more with alignment, unequal tire wear, wheel balancing, etc etc.
hahaha.
I recently swapped all my tires for nitto invos, brand new, balanced all the wheels/tires, and got an alignment. Still not as stable as I want, car will kinda "jerk" or loose grip it seems like when going over potholes or uneven breaks on the road.
Fronts are about 1.2-1.5 inches down, rears are set a little lower, but springs aren't compressed and preload set to a minimum as the shock body moves these coils shorter or longer. Dampening set at full soft.

PSA: Damping.
Unless, of course, you're adjusting the wetting of your shocks?
It sounds like you have a lot of bump-steer. Look up "ultimate guide to suspension" - it's a series of articles on MotoIQ. It'll explain why improper suspension geometry causes every problem you're referring to.

You seem to have suspension issues dude.. I would replace the shitty springs the D2's come with with swift springs. Also make sure none of your wheels are bent since the steering wheel vibrates and set the stiffness of the coils to soft so you don't need to suffer lol
