350Z vs. Z06 what to do?
I've owned a 350Z and a Z06...and a Viper. :-)
Vipers attract lots of attention. Maybe even too much for my liking. Mine was red and it was an "everybody" magnet. Driving through residential areas, kids STOP whatever they are doing instantly.... walk into the street and start BOWING as you drive by... People would make me roll down my window...on the highway to take our pictures..etc etc. That's just crazy.
My Z06 didn't stay stock for very long (all of 3 days). I sent it over to Lingenfelter and spent $30,000 on top of what I paid for the car. Even though when it was finished it looked nothing like a stock Z06, you still see them every day (I see at least 4-5 a day). Plus, as soon as you drive a Z06 off the dealer lot it depreciates $10k-$12k. On the used market they are a dime a dozen. The Coupes and convertables hold their values better. This was my second C5 (I also owned a '99 Coupe MN6). Needless to say, I will never own another Corvette. Their resale value is terrible.
The 350Z might not have the power of the Corvette or Viper, but has potential with forced induction. They look awesome (especially with wheels and some subtle lowering)I am lucky to see another 350Z in a full day of driving. For the money the 350Z is a great value and they seem to be holding their resale value pretty well.

The C-5 has been around for eight model years. The Z is only in it's second year. Give it a few more years and you'll see just as many Z's as Corvettes.

I don't know about that. Since late '98 Most Chevy dealers here in the Dallas area have 30 plus C5s on their lots at any given time. Frank Parra has up to 50 C5s on their lot at any given time and sell around 450 units a year. Do an inventory search on the 350Zs around the DFW area and only ONE dealer has even 20 350Zs (Trophy Nissan). The rest of the dealers are lucky to have 2-3-4 or 5 on their lot. The last few years, C5 vettes have been over sold, hence the horrendous resale value (there are at least a hundred used ones on sale in this area alone). I doubt very seriously the 350Z sells anywhere near the same volume as the C5....even after 8 years. I could be wrong, but I highly doubt it.
Heck, there are 2/3rds more G35s on Infinity dealer lots than 350Zs.... I actually see more of them than 350Zs... I would think it would be the opposite, but that's not the case here...

The Vette sells consistently at 28,000-30,000 per year. The Z out sold it last year and the 2004 is currently ahead of the 2003 model. The Z is the best selling sports car in America. Do the math.

The vette obviously handles better than the Z stock. But it seems to me though, given the structure of the Z, that if both were modified for handle from the ground up, the Z would be a better for handling. Am I wrong? If so, why?
