Default 350z fuel door

So i dislike the fuel door on my 350z and how i have to really push it to get it back into place. Has anyone ever put a g35 fuel door actuator in? they appear to have the same mounts and it sure would be easier that the button release that we have now.

I don't have a problem closing it, my problem is getting it open...I have to wedge my key and let it hang so it puts tension on the door

Realign it....simple fix at least in my case when it would not always release. Been fine for 7 years since...

I just find the G35 one so much easier, (the actuator is disabled) so it really is just press to open. It doesnt look like anyone has done this yet though

The latch is on the solenoid, which is the red X in the picture. The green arrow is the switch that operates the solenoid to release the door. Pushing the door in operates the switch.

The only thing different between the G35 and the Z is the location of the switch. I prefer to have it on the bottom of the dash.

The G35 gas door release is subject to the same problems as the on the Z. They may even be worse because of the co-location of the actuator and switch.

Actually the solenoid on a G35 coupe is controlled by the door locks. When the doors are unlocked the gas cap can be opened, and when the doors are locked the gas door cannot be opened. The push rest that opens the gas door is simply a spring similar to a retractable pen. This part ( by the green arrow in first picture) is not connected to the solenoid. Im just looking for a way to bypass the solenoid all together and just have this (pictured below) to open the gas door.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I have found.

You're right. It looked like a switch, but obviously it's not.

Seems like the spring on the G35 gas door would have to pull the door closed against the ball point pen actuator thingie, whereas the spring on the Z pushes the door out when the solenoid is activated to unlatch the door. How much trouble is it to change the spring arrangement?

I hadn't considered that, i doubt it would be to difficult though.
