i have an 08 and i got a call about renewing my warranty since its under the requirements
is it a good idea too?
i havent gotten the call back from the specialist so im not sure how much it will cost to renew the warranty but would it be in my best interest to renew?

You'll hear both sides of this here, but I did buy the Nissan extended warranty for my '08. Vaden Nissan had the best price a few years ago, so I'd check with them first. The older the car is, the more expensive the plan may be, but I paid ~$1200 for the top level of coverage when my '08 had ~30K miles on it. So far, I've had a power window motor replaced and the rear hatch struts, so I'm about 1/2 way to break-even. But the car has 50K on it now, and I'm covered to 120K or the middle of 2015.

Much rather take that $1200 and invest into some mods for the car. I have an 07 and did not renew my warranty and have 43k miles on my Z. I have changed the whole suspension, rims, brakes, differential, and exhaust. As long as there is no problem with engine I would pass on warranty. Save your money to use later on your car.

I got an original extended warranty with my 08 witch will be good up until June of this year so I'm starting to get those same letters in the mail wanting to know if I want to extend. I got free oil changes for the life of the extended warranty when I purchased it so I guess to that extent It's been pretty good. I have yet to pay for an oil change...
So far (knock on wood) my car has been trouble free so I think I'm going to pass. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is how has the car been running. Have you had any problems with it so far? I'm so paranoid about the window motors that I never roll them down..but other than that mine is running SWELL, I'm currently at 28k miles..As I just got a job out of town I'm starting to drive it more and put some pretty serious miles on her...
Pretty funny, along with the letter for the extended warrantly I got a letter from the dealship offering me (the letter said "at least" 19,600 for my car) if I was interested in a trade as they said that they have "7" people who are looking for a "similar" vehicle and they know mine is in mint condition...

I live in an area where the majority of people are out trying to make a quick buck.
I DO NOT trust anyone to work on my cars because of a few reasons, one of them is the above statement. Other reasons have to do with personal experience.
I would rather the manufacturer sell me a new car without a warranty for less money. Lemon Laws exist for a reason, and I can do all my own repairs/maintenance to keep the car on the road so warranties, for me, are pointless. Especially on well engineered products like the majority of new Japanese cars.
Now with that said, if you aren't in the position in life to be doing all your own work, dealing with downtime waiting for parts, have an abundance of specialized tools and the general asshattery that happens with car repairs, extended warranties are awesome, especially if that model car has a history of things breaking. If I bought my RevUp engined car when it was new and had known about the oil consumption issue, I would have gotten the engine replaced because faulty manufacturing should not be my concern. That is where warranties are great.
That is where the caveat lies. Do you take the chance and spend the money, only never to use it? or do you spend the money and have the peace of mind to know that if something on your car turns itself to scrap, that you get it fixed, no questions?
You live in New Orleans, I would get the warranty based on the idea that youre close enough to an ocean to have rust issues. Body panels arent the hardest/most expensive to repair/replace, but paint matching them is.

Extended warranties are no more a scam than your car insurance policy is - in fact they're both the same thing. Only difference is that car liability insurance is a requirement, because other innocent parties are sometimes involved in car accidents. Would you say that non-required collision coverage on your car is a scam?

Well i guess its needed if you're part of the pussyfication of America. There are many limp wrists around that are to lazy to take care of the smallest of problems. Look at how many guys drive automatic sports cars if you don't believe me, lazyness and pussyfication at its finest. Gets worse from there.

terrasmak it sounds like you've had a bad day.
I know i have. 124k miles and I just found out my Valve covers are leaking and my belts are cracked
did I mention the rotors that look like vinyl records?
and I thought I'd be able to throw on some sways before the season

All common stuff any male car owner should be able and ready to do when required.

an update
the warranty would cost me 3200$.... no clue why but they said it would be same as the new car warranty
with that kind of money spent i could dump all kinds of mods into the car
i still have a powertrain warranty and was wondering if there are any things i could say to perhaps... get nissan to rebuild or replace some things under the powertrain warranty?
my friends dad has an xterra and got them to replace the entire engine free of charge with the HR engine. and said the dealer knows him by name and said if i wanted to get any and all things possible replaced go to the guy who worked out the engine replacement
i have a sport clutch, air intake & magnaflow exhaust. would this cause them to not service the car?
things i have noticed is occasional flywheel chatter but apparently thats due to a sport clutch and the cars have natural chatter
it sounds like a truck sometimes at low rpm in first gear. and i get the occasional stiff shift at low speeds but at racing speeds i have butter shifts..
but its at 56k miles and is almost out of powertrain warranty so if i can milk it before its gone id like to
