How many miles before first mod.
I am almost ready to start modding the car, starting with an exhaust (then supension, wheels). However, I notice some posts regarding minor issues such as rattling, tranny problems, feathering etc. So to play it safe, I am thinking I should wait a couple of miles to see if there is anything wrong with the car so I can bring it to the dealer without the dealer blaming the mods. I only have 500 miles so far and I already start hearing some rattles in the dashboard.
So, how long did you wait before modding?

PatB: Most performance adders are ok to do with 0 miles on the car. If you're looking to do a supercharger or turbocharger, I'd break the car in first.
I suggest studdying up before doing any mods.

some also say intake and exhaust, 1200miles isnt too long. if you didnt follow this though, I wouldnt really expect anything bad to happen.
modifications are not an automatic warrenty void, particularly simple ones like intake and exhaust, if you got into pulleys, cams, headers, LSD or stuff like that, they could atleast give you a hard time, but would still have trouble denying you warrenty on tranny and such.

I had the same question floating around in the back of my mind for a long time. The other day I finally called my local dealer and talked to the Service Manager. He was completely cool. He didn't take the "any change voids the warranty" approach. He understood the spirit of Magnuson Moss Act and basically said do what you want to to the car. We'll work with you if there is a problem to get it fixed. Obviously if you install a Super Charger and try to get a worn clutch fixed under warranty, you are going to get some resistance. I would say call the Dealer and find out what their stance on modifications is.

I waited 2000 miles to do anything. Carefully broke the motor in, as well as clutch and drivetrain.
Then did the FI(with dyno tune).
Waited another 500 miles to get used to its performance and the sound.
Then did the exhaust catbacks and headers. (with dyno tune)
Waited another 1,000 miles, then did the cats(with dyno tune), and the suspension changes(sways and coilvovers/dampers), and reflashed the ECU.
Waited another 500 miles, then did the flywheel and clutch.
Waited another 1,000 miles, then did the LSD.
Changes are scheduled to give you a chance to become accustomed to each mod and to be aware of what is different from each mod. This is as much for my own education as it is for safety. And to fully appreciated the positive (or negative) influence a particular mod may have on your driving experience.
Also makes the fun more or less a continuous experience!
