Default Need help on upgrades

Hi I'm new on here and have a 2003 350z and I'm looking to make some upgrades to it and give it more horsepower and also looking to make it sound better. So I have a few questions, what all can I buy for less than 2000 dollars to add horsepower to my car?
Also what would be a good purchase to get a smoother riding suspension?
What type of exhaust would anyone recommend that doesn't sound too loud but sounds good when cruising but when you hit it I want it to be loud!
My last question is what kind of cold air intake should I purchase?
Thanks for the help guys!

for 2k you could probably buy an actual horse, albeit a 2k horse would probably be 25 years old.

You aren't going to get a significant amount of HP boost for 2k. etc. You can do the classic 2000's ricer thing and buy aftermarket parts that will add 1 hp here, 3 hp there but you are looking at about 60-200 bananas per HP and your very limited in what you can do. The real HP comes from forced induction...turbo etc which is well over your budget. You can always try lightening your car.... lose weight yourself etc. I'd save that 2g for new tires/rims or just chuck in the bank for when something needs fixin'.

Already dropped 2k on wheels. I meant 2000 for each I can spend more here and there, I was just wondering of a good exhaust for 2k or less and wondering what kind of cold air intake I should get. There's a 10k budget.

Do a lot of researching. Every single question you've asked can be found in previous posts. Don't set your self up for a flame...
Once you have more of an idea on this subject come back and ask specific questions.

OP, moneypit is right.

This is a great community that has helped me a lot with my car but this really isn't yahoo answers. It is a hobbyist/enthusiast forum and people are expected to do their due diligence. There is loads of articles and threads where this is already discussed to death. Plus this place is pretty damn ruthless at times. These kinds of threads are not encouraged because if they were, this entire board would be "what should I buy" and "how do I make the Z go fast" threads. This board needs to be clear for more relevant discussion that caters to the primary demographic.

do some research…

watch these videos too…nothing super-scientific but a good comparison on intakes.

as far as the exhaust goes, my two pennies are, look into the Stillen True Dual…pretty tame under normal throttle but gives a nice tone when you're at wot.

$2k

Exhaust, spacer, popcharger and test pipe/HFC can be had. You will need a tune for best results

All Nismo errvythang! Nismo catback exhaust, cold air intake, flywheel, a Z1 Plenum spacer then top it all off with a good tune (maybe uprev?). I wouldn't recommend test pipes if you don't want your car too loud. BTW your going to be very unhappy once you dyno your car. Jus sayin bro. And your probably going to get flamed soon, so prepare your anus cause things are about to get rough.

the invidia dual exhaust w/ single muffler dual tips can be had for like 8-900 and keeps the stock sound except when you open it up and then it gets louder, I think the Nismo exhaust is similar and you can get it for like 300 on craigslist possibly.

you can get a K&N or AEM at any autozone or advance auto I'm speaking east coast for like $50 if you cant wait for something cheaper in the mail.

I'd recommend getting an aftermarket intake manifold

all these mods will only make your Z sound more bad *** but it wont really be faster unless you get a tune these ecu's are so complex that without a tune mods dont really do anything but add noise

A carbon fiber hatch from Stillen will kill a bunch of weight off your Z the stock hatch is heavy as F***

The Nismo Progressive racing suspension lowers the car the harder you drive it, the best thing I can say about it is its much easier to drift in than the stock suspension.

my friend had Tein suspension on his G35 and it was pretty smooth not to mention lower to the ground much better than Tein coilovers on a Spec V which is harsh

I believe OP said $10k overall, $2k for each individual part. Below is a list of what I had when I was NA, and all can be had for way less than $2k individually ( this was my '07 HR ).

Injen CAI's
HKS HiPower exhaust
Tomei headers and test pipes
Tomei cams ( 264 in and out )
Cobb AccessPort tuned ( would recommend UpRev since Cobb doesn't support Z33's anymore )
Tein Type Flex w/ EDFC suspension

With $2k per upgrade, you're options are wide open.

Here she is on the dyno. Sounds legit when driving normal, then screams on full throttle.

You have 10k

Best options for NA:

Cams
Longtube Headers
Catback exhaust
Popcharger or aftermarket filter and '06+ OEM airbox
Plenum spacer
Polish and Ported lower plenum
Tune

For FI:
Vortech, GTM, Stillen for supercharger

Greddy, Momentum, GTM for Turbo

You have many options

Like many have been saying.
Injin intakes

However, exhaust preferences differ greatly here. Personally the Motordyne ART pipes and Shockwave 2 exhaust is the best. But the Fast Intentions full exhaust sounds really great too.

best single mod I've done though is the Quaife LSD. Comparable to the South Bend Stage 2 clutch package. HP isn't everything if you can't get it to the ground or have it turn up quickly. Think on it!

If you have to ask these questions, you shouldnt be doing anything to your car. Just read around for a bit.

What wheels do you have? and get test pipes.
