Starting my Z Build thread early.
Hey guys, I haven't been on this forum since I was buying my first car. Sadly I chose a 2008 Civic SI back in 2010, but it has been an amazing car for me. Now that I finally have the funds (in excess) to get the car I always wanted, I am planning on building my first car. The term building, might be wrong though, since I don't know much about mechanical work with the extent of my mechanical abilities following beginner DIYs. Instead I am going to let a professional handle everything and just supply my monay .
What I want is simple. A 350z, twin turboed, with nos, and a GTR-esque body kit if there is such a thing. For anybody who has twin turboed with nos'd their Z, how much did it cost? How much would the price difference be if I were to TT my stock engine vs TT a built engine. Also, how much do you think I will be paying for Labor? I plan on getting it built, I'm just curious.
This won't be happening until hopefully early next year so don't subscribe yet

I have no idea about forced induction or nitrous but I would recommend against the GTR kit (Webersports), doesn't flow with the 350z lines imo. Good luck with the Z

$10 to $15k for the turbo setup, add another $10k if you want a built motor. Forget the Nawwwwwsssssss idea and then your looking at an easy $5k in bodywork. You also need to add an extra $10k for suspension, diff and brakes.

why dont you just buy a GTR?
Twin Turbo Kit $6k
NOS Setup $1k
Built block & supporting mods $12k
Install/Labor/Tuning $3k

The GTR is my dream car. Like the thread "This pertains to the "17 year olds getting Z's" debate." I will wait and earn my GTR.
Ok, so I am looking at around 25grand for a built twin turbo with nos for drag racing, then an extra 10 grand for the suspension and things. I'm good with that. I haven't bought my Z yet, but since I am building my block does the mileage matter?
And to ZMoney.. What?

what are power goals? This will help determine if you need to go with built block or stock block. I would say that you are going to need about $10K-$12k for turbo on stock block depending on what year your 350z is. For built block I would add another $7k. Hope this helps.

I agree with bealljk, you're looking to change the look of your 350Z to look like a GTR and looking to boost power to something not far short of the GTR. Then you've got to get it to handle properly and stop with all that power, why not just buy a GTR designed to do all of this without the problems. Its all of what you want straight out of the box?

As Martin Luther King Jr. said...I have a dream.
Building a Z isn't like building a Civic. It requires a lot of money, a lot of knowledge, a lot of time, and a lot of dedication and maintenance. You're not going to drop FI in your Z, put it on the bottle, add supporting mods and daily drive it practically. If you want GTR performance, buy a GTR. Even if you have the kind of money it's going to take you to get there, you're still going to fall short of what a GTR would give you from the factory, and then you have to constantly worry about when the motor is going to go, because it eventually will. The GTR will still be faster, still be a lot more reliable, still be a much nicer riding vehicle, and will be more practical.
That being said, it sounds like you are following the route of many others, where you're dreaming about some of these built $50,000+ Z's you see in magazines and on the Internet and think a couple thousand out of your savings will get you there. That's unfortunately not the case. The VQ is not like a Honda motor. It can't be Frankenstein'd together with budget parts to magically produce more horsepower. Is a finely built block and has to be treated as such.
What you should ask yourself is why do you want to do all this? Is it just because it would be cool? Do you have a real purpose? Can you really afford to have a daily driver that will require this kind of upkeep and attention? Do you have experience under the hood? Can you figure out what's going wrong when something inevitably does before you grenade the whole thing? Legitimate questions to ask yourself. Don't make a dumb decision without thinking it through.
