Many thanks to those who responded. I guess I need to get used to the characteristics of the car. I just assumed that traction control would immediately reduce power when the computer detected differences between front and rear wheel speeds. I failed to mention the car has stock 18" rims with 245 x 45x18's mounted.

If you have 245/45-18” on front and rear, that might explain the problem you describe. The stock size for fronts is 225/45-18” which has less overall circumference (i.e., shorter) than a 245/45-18”. An all-square setup can affect TCS operation.
