This thread is funny lol, half the people here talking about how much driving they are doing with these manual trannies, yet 3/4s of you have never seen a track.

Now I am not new to a manual and have driven them almost exclusively for the last 16 years but after 5k miles I find myself wishing I had gotten another auto. There was something about the auto Z that I just enjoyed. I know this sounds crazy but I may be the first person thinking of going the opposite way here.

I am debating selling her to get another auto or finding someone who wants to trade me.

Has anyone else ever felt this way? I was always a purist and chose a manual over auto but after owning both I kinda want to go back.
Where r u located ? Would you like to trade the man tranny for a auto ?

It's actually quite a bit more civilized than I expected it to be.

Exactly. Some but not all of the MT drivers (Z owners or not) talk like they own the world because they drive stick.
Like it's an exclusive club. Lol

Drive like Ken Block in his WRX STI manual on a closed course and now that's bad a**. now that's putting the MT to real, fun use. Extreme example but u get the point.

<Flame suit on

My first car was an auto rsx. I modified it a ton and hated that it was an auto. Finally sold it and got a MT Z.

Ive always found this debate interesting. Here are some of the things Ive heard mixed in with some of my own opinons:

Are MT people against auto like carburetor people are against fuel injection?

No person will ever be as accurate as a computer.

Can you shift faster than someone who doesn't take their foot off the gas or brake and uses paddle shifters or tiptronic/manumatic?

Ill get hated on for this but if Im completely honest one of the primary reasons for me getting a manual was peer pressure... That being said I dont thing Ill ever get a auto again.

For drag racing automatic is faster. But I don't drag race. I daily drive and for that I much prefer a manual trans.

I'm currently building my truck and it's been a hard discussion between me and myself if I want to just build the automatic that's in it to support the power and put a manual valve body in it or just throw a 5sp in it.

And I'm strongly against carbs. I don't know anything about them and don't care to learn. FI is so much better.

carb people argue youre closer to the car. Cuz your tweaking your power band mechanically. Ive rebuilt the carb for my motorcycle and I do see what people like about it.

But I never see myself getting a carb'd car...

You guys see what the argument is though right? Whether we like it or not manual is being fazed out. Hopefully itll never completely die.

Oh another thing I learned from a guy that does programming (spoiler) for an auto company.

Auto companies hate making manuals because cars electronics are so involved these days (systems) and after programming everything for the auto they have to do it alllll over again for the manual. Even stupid **** that doesnt have anything to do with the transmission may need to be reprogrammed.

Sorry for the lengthy post but like i said this topic is interesting to me.

Honestly, who really cares... it's his car.

People have different reasons for choosing AT over MT, to each their own.

No reason to bash someone for voicing his opinion.

What he said. I had an auto g coupe and went to a manual 07 HR and have no regrets. If the HR motor was offered in the V35 chassis I would have went for that.

enjoy your auto Z, in the slow lane. Please stay out of the fast lane.
This is me. I may just be a lil kid at heart with a grown up head on my shoulders. EVERY corner and turn is LIKE a race track. I may be going the speed limit but I still feel like saying "VRooooom---errrrrrt(tire squeal) when I'm pulling into a parking lot.

Per my post above, you can SEE the road as a track, but how you "attack" it is where the idiots are separated from the men. For me, the option of starting out slowly in 1st, shifting to 2nd(checking mirrors) then giving it the beans for a short while is irreplaceable since in an auto it would likely have been in 3rd or 4th and would have to kick down.

I have had 5 total speeding tickets since I was 17, now (about to be) 27. and only 2 of them were "aggressive" the others were mindless sheep in the fast lane going 75 and not noticing the cop.

I'm glad I didn't test drive an auto or I may have ended up with it! After 6 months I traded it for an 07 coupe and was much happier.
I don't know how you fudged that up-- roadster looks = imo. hahaha. Glad you're in an HR now!

lolololol

I can't stand an automatic unless it has a manual valve body in it.

I like to be in control of my car and I want it to do what I tell it to do. Automatics downshift needlessly, downshift too far just to come back up a gear when you floor it so you look retarded, cant figure out what is going on etc...

Gets kinda tricky when you are trying to turn a corner, talk on your cell phone, eat a burger, smoke a cig and upshift all at the same time, but it can be done.
I agree with dumb untimely downshifts. Drove 2014 Jeep G Cherokee for work with 8speed auto trans. It would kick down to 6th if I tried to go from 75 to 77 to get over a lane.

As per your "tricky times" of eating, talking on phone, j-ing oh, or whatever you're doing, don't. Even in my Mazda I get so pissy when I get a call I have to take(driving and talking not illegal in my state)

Focus on driving at all times. I love driving.

hahaha ^^ This. I could EASILY sell my Z right now since it's been a couple weeks since I drove her. But once I started it up for the new potential buyer, I would end up stiff arming him to the face to jump in and take off.

been to the track. Love to rev match or heel toe unnecessarily coming to stops/making turns. Even if it's within the speed limit, it's still fun to practice.

Douches will be douches regardless of transmission. I had an older Eclipse auto swarming me like a bee trying to get me to race him and I just let him have his "fun". Can't fix stupid.

Human error is what makes racing racing. If the car does all the work for you and all you do is and turn in the general vicinity of the turn and you're still fast because the Stability control and computer what fun is that? This is just my opinion, but if someone has fun blasting around the track in an auto so be it. I'd like to be better than someone who was trying.
