interesting, guys who switched from auto DE to manual HR, like their HR better? no offense, but regardless of auto/manual, i'd also much rather have a HR... your cases just isn't that convincing...

and also interesting to note that some here hating on auto seems to not realize there is tiptronic in place for the auto 350z? you hate auto shifting early or downshift crazy? switch the tiptronic mode, and behold! magic!

I'm not saying one is better than the other, but

Only a castrated person or a chick could consider that a supplement for a standard gearbox.

Bought another car yesterday, 5mt, just something to cruise around In the crazy traffic.

then can you elaborate and explain objectively why auto is "inferior" to manual?

good points. I was speaking towards the shifting only. I <3 driving with my TCS off!

Thank you to all the troll/meme-generators for your constructive comments.

Control: the only missing thing is pretty much just the clutch tho, so you are saying you like manual not because the you have control over what gear to put in, but instead, just like to step on the clutch pedal?

Loss of power: I can agree that some power would be loss in between. but then by how much?

I've driven cars with tiptronic, paddle shifters etc...

I can't stand paddles on the wheel, and having the shift gate on an automatic still isn't the same.

You're breaking the car to driver bond when you remove the clutch and the mechanical linkage controlling the gear selection. My car does exactly what I tell it to do, not what computers and sensors tell it to do.

I like to feel it clunk into gear as I shift.

It would be like putting an automatic on a motorcycle. It would completely ruin the ride.

go try the 350z tiptronic... the computer doesn't tell you what to do, you are telling the computer what to do basically

I'm sure it's the same as the other tiptronic setups. You push a button (essentially what you're doing when moving the shifter within the shift gate section) and the computer tells the transmission what to do.

I really really doubt this. Programming is not that big of a deal and would not merit excluding the manual transmission altogether. The only sports cars that are beginning to exclude it are doing so in order to have better performance numbers. Faster shifting, and of course cars such as the GTR which pretty much keep themselves on the track, with no need for additional human input. As far as I'm concerned, every "driver's car" is still available with a manual and that will most likely not change any time soon.

my argument is that you are the one controlling the computer, not the computer controlling itself (given exception to safe guard was built in so that you won't blow things up). I just don't see how you practically loss the ability to control it.

Because you removed the mechanical linkage and replaced it with a wire.

You cant feel the gears shift through the shifter when it is plugged into a harness instead of bolted to the transmission.

It's a mental thing.

There would be far fewer wrecks due to distracted drivers (texting etc...) if they would take all the electronic safety nets and crap out of cars and put manual transmissions into them. Make the person drive again and they wont have time to distract themselves.

so you agree the differences is not practical enough to make you lose any control? then I'm glad we are on the same page

1. I never said the automatic isn't good. I said they are faster for drag racing and can be built pretty damn strong. I just prefer the mechanical connection there is with a manual trans.

2. It was just another random bit of info that pertains with the topic.

Thanks for clarifying! Sorry I misunderstood your position.

and yup... that random bit is quite random...
