Default 0-60 in 4.993 sec measured with an AutoEnginuity OBDII scanner

a friend of mine just picked up the new AutoEnginuity OBDII scanner system from Vivid Racing ( www.vividracing.com )

He's got an Audi TT. We played with it for a while on his car and then tried it out on mine.

Lemme say that this device far surpasses other OBDII scanners out there. Not only will it read the standard parameter like speed, rpm, TPS, intake air temp, MAF, coolant temp, O2, fuel trim, etc.... it also has a separate program that has dyno and acceleration modes.

For the dyno run you put the car into 3rd gear and bring it up to about 3,000 rpm. Then start the run on the computer. You go to WOT and hold it until 6,700 rpm and then let off. As soon as you let off it calculates the HP and TQ values.

What's different about this program is it corrects for drag on the car from wind by taking in the air temp, elevation and barometric pressure as well as the car coefficient of drag and frontal area.... so the numbers you get are about as accurate as you can get. This is something my Gtech Pro will not do.

Since the readings are taken straight from the ECU the accuracy is amazing.

We did about 5 dyno pulls and 5 1/4 mile runs. Each of the runs was on the same road going opposite directions each time to counteract any grade in the road.

here are the numbers for the dyno runs (sorry I forgot to save the torque numbers)

DYNO
1. 231 rwhp
2. 229 rwhp
3. 234 rwhp
4. 236 rwhp
5. 229 rwhp

We did the same for the 1/4 mi. runs

1. 0-60 5.6 sec 14.2
2. 0-60 5.3 sec 13.9
3. 0-60 5.0 sec 13.9
4. 0-60 5.3 sec 14.0
5. 0-60 4.9 sec 13.8

the variations in 0-60 are largely due to me trying different things like full manual mode, TCS off, etc.

so my average HP is 231.8 rwhp

my average 0-60 is 5.22

my average 1/4 mi. is 13.96

Our next test is to use the AutoEnginuity and my Gtech Pro at the same time and then average those results.

my current mods are a K&N filter and a Borla Dual exhaust.

check out www.autoenginuity.com for details. I think it's like $220.

everything is taken from the ECU. It knows the instant you start rolling and it also knows the instant you hit 60. it's 100% accurate on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile. The Dyno probably has a few percentage error but no more than a real dyno.

WOT is wide open throttle or full throttle. Very good times N7. Glad someone is keeping it real for us!

Sounds interesting... thanks for the data. The 5.0s 0-60 is a little suspicious but the rest looks normal.

What methods did you use to get the lowest 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? Sounds like a very helpful and fun toy!

I hope its that good. I placed an order for one.

Does anyone know, what kind of 1/4 would a Vortech Z get?

My friend has a Porsche 911 GT 2 and gets 12sec / 120+- MPH 1/4 mile, and he is MY TARGET .................... the Z will prevail

Thanks,
Az

my lowest 0-60 and 1/4 mile were done with TCS off and my tranny in manual mode. I was shifting at 6,300 rpm.

I suspect the excellent performance is due to a cold night with low humidity. I doubt I'll retain those figures come summertime in our 115 degree AZ heat.

wow... sounds like a really neat toy. yea the 0-60 times do looka a little too quick..but the 1/4 seems pretty reasonable if you have a borla for a few extra hp. cool post

BTW: Where can you find the ECU hookup?

Thanks,

it plugs into the OBDII port. lower left of your dash by the hood release.

so what im asking is since were talking tenths and hundrenths of a second here maybe that thing you use gets a read faster

i dunno

but dont you agree if nissan could have found anyway to make the car read 0-60 in 4.9 or 5.0 that it would be on every commercial or brochure that put out?
I'm not stock dude. I have a dual Borla which may account for my 12-15hp gains over most stock 5AT's. I also have 285 rubber in the rear which lets me power brake at a higher RPM without breaking loose on the launch. I get mega traction on the launch.

Is this device coded to handle any wheel slip or reaction time? I'm guessing it assumes rolling resistance is constant for all speeds and conditions. Not quite true but probably close enough for playing. These factors may explain the quick and somewhat variable 0-60 times.

I assume the user sets the Cd and frontal area for the drag force adjustment in which case knowing these closely would be important. Although the 1/4's are very consistent and close to what's been experienced for the Z.

Sounds like a fun toy.

I'm confident his 0-60 times are 1/4 mile times are correct. Remember folks, HE HAS MODS. Here's a quote from a post in the drivetrain/NA/FI forum which sheds some light:

"Stock, I got a 14.0/101 in the quarter and from my experience, I think traction and gearing were a problem. I spun heavily even when launching @ 2000 rpms. Also, once I did get started it took an eternity to get into the Z's powerband. Once there, everything was fine. But it was an agonizing wait.

This April when the track opens, I hope to get a 13.5 with mods. I hope to get there with three mods which I think address the problems with this car. (Not really problems, but I think our car underperforms its peers even though it has more power) I have everything but the R&P. (Due March 1) Honestly, I would be pretty darn satisfied with a 13.5 for about $1800.

Ring & Pinion
ECU
Wider/Stickier Tires

Not sure if I'll make it, but it beats spending $10,000 for a 13.1."

And to boyzee, if you had read N74DV's post he said his 0-60 times varied because he tried several different launching methods, not because"it assumes rolling resistance is constant for all speeds and conditions."

If it uses speedo to know when you hit 60, it could be off minimally because of different tire size. Different overall diameter, even fairly small can help make a difference either way on a speedometer.
