I had built a civic coupe that handled like it was on rails. On a skid pad (gigantic parking lot, ex military, now closed) just turning i could never get the car to slide out. I would rip over 100 and turn the wheel as hard as i felt I could and the car would just turn. Granted it had falcon azienas and great sway bars, coil overs, big brakes, light weight rims, poly suspension bushings throughout the car, and strut tower braces... It was a great car for the track, other than low HP#'s.

My Z is on stock rims, suspension and sway bars. I do NOT feel confident with it in the turns. With the new Nismo LSD, in hard turns and adding power (gas pedal) the azz starts to go.
It almost makes me want to go back to hondas....

I get that feeling thru every corner, that is a normal feeling when pushing a car at 10/10th on the track.

mine does the same thing. bigger, stickier tires helped. and im sure its faster than a stock honda. i can also tell that if the rear end shocks and springs were dialed in better than stock (for going real fast) it would grab like hell.
also depends on what your driving fast on. on canyons my car feels like it might need a softer rear spring rate or better shocks. and definately better rebound. and on autox i feel like i have too much lean and sway.

oh btw im very confident that the z is an incredible handling car.

I did take a corner the other day going rather quickly where it did kick out on me. It really was just a super sick drift. But I always feel comfortable cornering the Z.

Sigh up for autocross or HPDE. Get yourself some skills and confidence.

My Z has the Nismo suspension along with s-tune sway bars and 10.5" wide tires. I can take a corner as fast as I have the guts to do so. Sometimes I feel like a need bigger side bolsters so I suggest do suspension work and you will be very pleased

This is such a stupid thread. Learn how to drive a RWD car.

Of course you will feel this way when pushing the car to the limit. Oversteering is much "scarier" than understeering.

To say a Lancer econobox has better handling than a Z sports car is foolish.

That feeling your getting when your confidence seems to crash is called your "Limit"... Don't push it to far yet. The car can handle alot more than what your throwing at it trust me and so can you, just not until you put in the seat time. Your so called limit as well as your cars will grow with patience, practice and time. As you get more comfortable with the car you'll start to find it easier to brake a little later and take those corners faster ( pushing your limit farther and farther) until eventually you'll hit the cars "limit".... Then the modifying begins and you and the car will grow together (but not in a gay way though).Finding out where yours is first is key because it tells you how far you can push before you hit the" Ok lemme stop before I kill myself " point which is always good to know

Everyone has different levels of driving skills and that "unconfident feeling" means you are approaching yours. A stock Z is setup to understeer as it reaches the traction limit entering a corner, and going to throttle too quickly will unbalance the car. Do not judge the Z's limits based upon your own.

Easy to say when you have a peg leg car that WILL NOT throw itself sideways. Put in a good LSD then take the same turns... you will fell the rear want to go. it isn't as easy as u make it seem.

My Base was pretty easy to drive with the OEM open rear diff. I couldn't get that car sideways for more than 40 feet, and believe me I was trying. I put in the NISMO LSD and its a whole different ball game. Try it, go for some function over form... Do some mods that will make your "beast" a true BEAST.

I know I am in dire need of an LSD which is why it will be my next mod. Unfortunately my car is put on hold since I'm saving for a wedding but eventually I will get one.

Not sure if you track your car but trust me I have had some scary moments with the tail coming out pretty hard. Doesn't matter if you have an LSD or not, overheated tires on a quick turn will do it.

My whole point of my post is that understeer is much less scarier than oversteer. Anybody would agree with that. IMO it takes more skill to drive a RWD car fast over a FWD or AWD.

How you like the Nismo? I have been looking into the stock VLSD and Quaife, it seems like the Nismo is mucho expensive but if it's worth the money I'll look into that as well.

SQualZ-
I like the Nismo. It isn't nearly as loud as everyone says it is. I barely notice it. Just on sharp turns (parking lot) you feel the car jerking... and hear one tire chirping. You do hear some clicking and clanking, but only when the stereo is off.

The RWD vs FWD vs AWD
I would say that if u drive a RWD normally and get into a FWD or AWD they will be very difficult to drive (fast). Switch those around any which way and my opinion would be the same. I came from FWD, and talking to guys who are/ were RWD who tried FWD they struggled with it.

I feel you on saving for the wedding... i'm in the same boat, but we just keep pushing it out further and further. I don't mind, i get to spend all the one on my hobbies.

i came from FWD so the Z gives me way more confidence. Im very pleased with killing understeer with the gas pedal. Maybe Im just not pushing it as much as you are. Although it may not be as much fun, when im driving in a "spirited" manner on public roads my VDC/TCS is on. Very smart and useful software to counter a human error.

It’s all about timing and when you apply power. Idiots enter turns too fast, losers apply power too late, and winners time speed with power for the best result.

Yep I guess that moment of thinking youre losing it and your breathing slows and a rush you get from saving it is all what driving a RWD is about.

I just dont understand where all the reviewers got this notion that the z has such superb handling in the corner, it feels really risky at times unless they were just going 45-55Mph around sharp corners..

Actually you need to get your facts right the Lancer i had wasnt a Econ box lol look into it first before you judge. Basically comes stock has a detuned EVO. Thou mine I upgraded to put out more than a stock Evo MR.
