The Tail is fun the first 100 times or so - but make sure you branch out to all of the other fantastic roads surrounding it. Lots of sweepers in combination with tight twisties and elevation changes. The Tail is pretty much hit the gas, hit the rev limiter, hit the brakes, rinse and repeat 300 times. It will wear you out and there are a lot of arsehats on it - both cars and bikes.
This year will be my 10th ZDayZ www.zdayz.com

Two years ago my wife and I rented a Mustang convertible (yearh, touristy, I know) and drove the Hana Highway in Maui between Kaanapali and Hana and to be honest, the locals were just about the craziest drivers I've seen outside of Manila (and I lived there for two years, so I know). Guys would fly by us in their lifted pickups in no-passing zones and would try to ram us off the cliff when they hit oncoming traffic and had to quckly get back in their lane or face a head-on collision. Horns had ZERO effect on them.

There's spirited driving and then there's crazy driving. This falls into the later camp.

The views in Hawaii are undoubtedly spectacular, but because of the agressive local drivers and narrow roads, I'd put Hawaii toward the bottom of my list on best places to drive a Z. I'm sure it varies among islands.

A lot of truth here. I love the Dragon but its not my favorite road down there and at only 11 miles its a fun walk in the park by comparison. Bottom line though is that the Smokey mountain region (Tn/NC) would get my vote for best place to go driving. Just so many amazing roads with the scenery to match.

I enjoy the roads I've driven in the Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks. They have a little bit of everything!

what states have you guys seen this sign?

I first saw it in Kentucky. I understand it to mean "end of [exception speed limit] return to state mandated speed limit for type of road"

+1

it's still a problem on the other country islands so to speak...on Oahu however which has wider/stateside style roads....the continuous rolling terrain always engages the driver...even in my Charger it put a small grin to my face...

Ohio .

Motor Trend drives down here to test their cars on the "Ohio Nurburgring" for a reason. SR 555 is one of the best driving roads in America.

LOL! Okay, we're going to Oahu next then. I've always wanted to check out the USS Arizona Memorial and Hanauma Bay. I'm going to try to get something better than the V6 Mustang convertible I had in Maui though.

I just got back from LA a few weeks ago (we went to a taping of The Price is Right and sat next to the big dude who got called with the first 4 - to be aired on January 23rd.) We got another Mustang convertible, but it was a newer GT model with 420 HP and 390 lb-ft of torque (only a $6 per day upgrade over a Nissan Altima 2.5). We did all 21 miles of Mulholland Drive and managed to catch the sunset when we got to the Pacific Ocean. It was EPIC; one for the books.

If I can get a similar car, I'd like to try the coastal loop route from Diamond Head to Waimea Bay. If/when that happens, I'll do my best to re-consider my status of Hawaii as a driver's paradise.

Cali, best drive i ever took was up pch and driving on the freeways out here is ridiculous when there is no traffic you can absolutely fly, there have been times where i wasn't paying attention to how fast i was going and look at my speedometer, see a cop behind me, and they go around because i start slowing down lol

Nevada, all of the freeways are well maintained and so are the streets. smooth as a racetrack and they are flat and fast. just have to watch out for other drivers because its the state with the second highest amount of traffic deaths per year and the state with the highest amount of car accidents.

Oregon, the scenery is ridiculous but the weather is ****.

Washington, same thing as oregon
