We (my350z) all are against reckless driving and speeding in traffic because too many variables....BUT if you have to, drive smart, drive for the person in front of you and the person behind you...do this by always using your blinkers before making sudden lane changes. Keep your eyes on the speedo when not watching the roads. You may think you're not going fast but as you mentioned you got into the three digit speeds quickly. At those speeds on an average Z car you are pushing the limits even in a straight line. Please try and take a HPDS to understand what high speed and that "lighter" feeling really is!

Please continue to share as your writing has a lot of enthusiasm behind it and it's refreshing
I am a noob, to FR's like the Z. I used to be purely an FF Honda guy.

KingBaby, I try to consider others, my activities are not in high traffic, I do however, strongly dislike the guy that speeds up when I try go around. A lot of people do that in PA drive slow but speed up when you attempt to pass.
May pop always says when you driving you don't drive for you, but for the people around you.

I often check my mirrors and do head checks even if I'm not switching lanes. I just want some degree of situational awareness. You never know when somebody doesn't see you but it helps to seem them and what they are doing. I also want the ability to get up and out of the way, preferable with my car intact but most importantly with its occupants unscathed.

Congratulations man, it's a great feeling. I drove an Integra for 9 years before getting my Z.

My next suggestion would be to find a clean, open parking lot late night and get a true feel for the RWD dynamics. Turn off traction control and see what it feels like when the rear end gets loose.

LOL, too funny. Only because I was thinking about turning the VDC for a drive or two.

I blew a valve on my Prelude racing a Tegi. I forgot I wasn't in my accord in the middle of the race. I limited the rev on the Accord to 6800rpms to keep it from red lining, removed speed limiter, and had added a shift light. nothing special but I wanted to take the car to the limit. I expected limit to kick in by time I noticed it didn't I had been the full range of red. I heard a small pop toward the end of the strip. Long story short when I checked the valves it looked like genetically engineered squirrel took a bite out of one of the intake valves. I may have won the race but I lost my motor.

And that's reason #1 why I'm no longer racing. It got too expensive. It's a vicious cycle. Race, maintenance, race, buy more parts, get a tune, race, break something, replace, and buy tires.
