So I found a 6 inch crack on my windshield that grew 2 inches in one hour of driving. I have a deal with my insurance company that they will likely replace the entire windshield, so:

1. What should I look for in finding a trustworthy/high quality repair place?

2. What might have caused the crack (there is no obvious chip that is originates from, just a random crack that appeared)?

3. Anything I should watch for/be weary of after the repair has been done?

All comers with any advice welcome. Apperciate it.

My wife's I30 had the windshield replaced a few years back after a flying rock put a foot long crack in it. The insurance did take care of the cost. All I had to do was bring it to the dealer, who then had an auto glass company do the repair. It's been 4 years now without any problems.

 

I had a stress crack in my windshield when the car was 4 months old. It grew to about 10" long.. I have full glass coverage. Insurance sent me to a local PPG glass center. I had the glass replaced the next day. It took about 1 1/2 hours. The glass guy said it was the 4th 350Z windshield he's replaced.. He showed me the poor quality of the glass.. They repalced it with a PPG windsheild that is 100% better quality.. Looks exactly like the factory glass.. Our friends in japan better get there act together.. Oh yes.. they billed my insurance company $283 for the job.. No reason to pay over $700 from the dealer.. Another total rip off..
