Default Just got Vin#......finally!!!

Now a different wait begins. ETA at dealer 10/11 give or take.
Should be on the vessel Hual Traveller, ETD Yokohama 9/11 and ETA L.A. 9/30. Then trucked north to it's new home.

YIPEEEEE!!

Did your dealer call you with your VIN?

Here is a link to a vessel sailing schedule from L.A. You just have to do some date rearranging to get the right sequence of ETD/ETA.

http://www.wls-usa.com/wls-1c.htm

I have no clue how to determine a date for delivery in AR. They would probably unload you car through the Port of Houston.

Zwindsor, I think you might have read the chart wrong. I think I have determined that my car is on the Hual Traveller also and that left Yokohama 8/22 and gets to Los Angeles 9/16. World Spirit left on 9/11 and gets here 9/30.

My VIN is in the 3000's, how about yours? My dealer said I should have the car by 10/14 but should be sooner. I have heard that you get your VIN a little after the car leaves the port and I got my VIN before the World Spirit left so I think mine is on the Hual Traveller.

Shalashaska, afraid I've got to disagree. Don't forget this schedule is for shipments leaving LA, not arriving.

The Haul Traveller departs LA on 9/30. If it arrived as you say on 9/16 then the ship would have to remain in port for 14 days. That will never happen...48 hours tops (24 hrs to unload, 24 hrs to load).

The schedule on the link is a little too current so you have to
back-track a little. Transit time is 15 days from Yoko to LA. If the Haul leaves LA on 9/30 that means it arrived 9/28, minus 15 days equals 9/13 for a departure from Yoko +/- .

The World Spirits leaves LA on 9/16.

Also remember that the vin# is available approx. 3 days after the ship sails. Since my vin# just showed up the car has to be on a ship that left last week.

Here's a schedule the Scafreman put together some time ago which concurs with mine calculations +/- a day or two.

ShipSchedule
Ship Depart Yokohama Arrival LA
United Spirit 7/18/2002 8/6/2002
World Spirit 7/23/2002 8/9/2002
Hual Traveller 8/6/2002 8/25/2002
United Spirit 8/22/2002 9/18/2002
World Spirit 8/25/2002 9/9/2002
Hual Traveller 9/11/2002 9/30/2002
United Spirit 9/26/2002 10/15/2002
World Spirit 10/5/2002 10/24/2002

Ok I think the part I read wrong was the receiving date. I assumed that the boat would be there but it just meant that the port would start getting the items you wanted to ship and then like you said I guess loading/unloading takes 24hrs. But you said the World Spirit leaves LA on 9/16. The World Spirit departures from LA that I see are on 9/10, 10/14. Well so you think that United Spirit gets here on the 18th? I think that's the one my car is on then. I wonder how long it takes at the port.

Shalashaska: Yes, the United Spirit should arrive around the 18th. When did you get your Vin#? My vin# is a "32xx"

gibbsy1: Yes, my dealer called just after lunch today.

ZforFun: On a lot of the reports that the dealers get it only shows the month and year until the Vin# shows up then the date gets a little more accurate. If your were told 10/2 then it probably just means Oct. 2002.

My VIN is 30XX and I got it on the 10th of sept. I think it was available sooner but my dealer is lazy and he said it wasn't even on the tenth till I pushed him on it and then he was like "Uh....I think I might be able to get a printout" and then got it for me 1 hr later.

As I mentioned earlier, the reports the dealers run off their computers only give the month and year. It is shown as "Oct. '02". So when they tell you 10/2 it means October 2002 not the 2nd of Oct.

The actual delivery to you always depends on when the Vin# first appeared on the report and where you are physically located. Of course cars destined for the West coast will arrive sooner then anywhere else in the country.

From the time it leaves Japan and arrives in LA is approx. 15 days. Then there's the port prep and local transport to arrange. Within Calif. this can take anywhere from a couple of days to 10 days to reach a dealer.

Be patient, especially those east of the Rockies because most likely those cars are being delivered to other ports and either railed or trucked to your dealer.

Zwindsor: I salute your powers of analysis and deductive reasoning.

My dealer today gave me an ETA of 10/11 also, behind a 31XX VIN. Let's hope we get in on the shortests possible wait for California delivered cars.

I got a call yesterday (9/16) from my dealer in which he gave me the VIN. He said that my car was due Oct 1, but he had already been invoiced for it so he thought that perhaps it could arrive as early as next week (week of Sept 23). Then he called today to say that my car may arrive tomorrow!!

Now I need to clean out the garage, get the pink slip for my trade in, take it to the car wash, and clean out the interior, all by tomorrow in the hopes that my car will actually show up. I'm so excited I don't know what to do. I keep trying to convince myself that there is no way the car is coming tomorrow so I won't be dissapointed when the call doesn't come in (but it's sooooo hard not to let that anticipation build after almost 8 months of waiting).

Well, I wish you all the best of luck with your deliveries. I know that for me, it gets more and more difficult to wait as the culmination of all this excitement approaches!

Good Luck!
