Default Is any one dumping their exhaust?

I was at the local pool hall yesterday, and I was talking to a a guy with a pretty nice black G35C, and he was talking about putting electronic exhaust cut outs before the muffler. I've heard them on V8s and they are really nice sounding, and stupidly loud. Any one have exhaust dumps, or a sound clip of one?

I think its basically a switch to turn your muffler on or off. It opens or closes a hole before the muffler.

I believe it is to give you a less restrictive exhaust for better performance and much louder sound(?) when open.

When closed, the exhaust goes through the muffler for stock sound and performance.

Is this correct anyone?

"dumps" are just exhaust pipes that turn downward, usually directly after the rear axle, thus they sit back from the rear facia and go unseen. Cut-outs typically come in two forms; electronic and manual. The cut out functions much like a valve, which will direct exhaust flow through the muffler or direct it straight out (anything that hinders airflow hinders HP). Some of your nicer cat-backs have a similar feature (see F-body Borla). This is fairly common thing to do; it keeps your car street legal, but when you go to the track, or just want to be loud, it allows for that.

most exhust dump valves are usually put before the cats....
this is to benefit from less restriction...
on naturally aspirated motors these suckers are louder than hell.
now....turbos....whole diff ball game...u can get more boost.... and pick up a ish load more HP.....
i think it would be kinda dumb to do this on NA. might even loose power from loss of back pressure.
